Hi,
Why is he a nutter? I have known of some of the older Greeks taking a dip every day of the year. Surely the sea is much warmer this time of year than in April/May when it hasn't then warmed up with the summer sun.

The sea temperature here in sunny Broadstairs UK (yes it was sunny and unseasonably warm) was 13c and we had 2 very brave people swimming along with a 6year old! Can't wait for the warmth of the Ionian....

Replying to Homesick...Nutter...why? Probably warmer than our beach in summer. Having been in many parts of the Med when sea temps are wonderful, have always been surprised to see so few people actually in the sea. Our beach, where sea temps never get above 18C is packed in summer. I think it must be the fact that the Med sort of just "lies there" with no waves, whilst we have great surf which is what,'specially the kids" love.

The sea in Arillas and St Stefanos is warm. Yesterday I paddled and had it not been soooo choppy in St, Stef I would have gone in. As long as we don't have too much North wind it stays warm. In Acharavi people swim all year round, the coast is protected with land on both sides.

In the first two weeks of June the average temperature is about 25˚C and it is probable that one day a week it will drop a short rain. Evenings are warmer but humidity is still high, so you should better take your jacket with you. The next two weeks it is finally summertime: temperatures are around 30˚C and evenings are warm, there always exists the possibility of rain. The sea is henceforth warm.

I'm not the bravest when it comes to immersing myself in the sea or an unheated pool but my experience of the end of June is good. That was on the west coast at St Georges South.
Hopefully you will enjoy your dips in the sea whichever coast you plan to stay. Let us know won't you?
David
