Some advice please! We've been invited to a Greek wedding in our beloved Corfu this December and will be going (Yay!). Massively excited as you can imagine. But we are stuck as to what to buy the bride and groom. Has anyone any suggestions? Preferably to fit in hand luggage?
Also, has anyone been to a Greek wedding in Corfu? What should we expect? Any etiquette we should observe etc?
Many thanks

It's normal to give money at Greek weddings
In an envelope with your card. You either do this at the church when you congratulate the bride, groom and their families, the bride has a bag which she collects the envelopes, or you can give it at the reception proir to you leaving.

Many years ago on Kos we observed the wedding party walking through the village with musicians etc , a huge crocodile. As people joined the walk they were pinning money on the brides dress. Is this traditional everywhere in Greece?

I think money is the way to go!
We were invited to a wedding a few years back and we were invited to the Brides home before they left for the church. Their wedding bed had already been made up (it was beautiful) so all those who had given money were invited to *view* the wedding bed and put the envelopes in the middle of the bed!
We asked advice - before we went - and we were told to take money in a plain white envelope (with no card - we had a separate wedding day card) and throw it on the bed. The Greeks being the kind and thoughtful people that they are think that if you give money - as it's in a plain white envelope with no clue who it's from - then if you can't afford very much - they don't want you to feel bad!! It is the same when you pin money to the dress - they can't keep track of who gives what, so nobody feels bad if they can't afford a lot.

As mentioned 100 euros is the norm unless closely related; although it appears to us strange its the custom there and it really does go down well. I have been to three this year and it was very much stipulated MONEY... They are brilliant weddings and believe me completely different.
