We are looking for ideas on parking our car near the airport? We have a house in the north and drive our car over at the start of season then bring it home for winter. We have relied on the generosity of friends to pick us up, However this is unfair so we want somewhere near the airport that could house the car for the times we are not there. Maybe a garage? Large Garden? Small plot.. for sale or rent

Hi is your car Greek reg then. Start of season home for winter thats longer than you are aloud to drive it over heir, insurance cover comes to mind as well,
Their are other topics covering this.
Ray.
Ray - what are you implying? If their car is "Greek reg" or not, the season lasts for 6 months maximum which is perfectly legal or "aloud" and as for insurance you can easily get 12 month European cover.

Am I alone in finding this post extremely confusing? If you drive your car to Corfu and back each year, why do you need someone to pick you up and if your car's there, then surely you're there as well, otherwise how did it get there?

Hi Elaine,
From reading their post it seems that they don't stay there all season.

My interpretation is that they usually leave the car at their house in the north and get friends to drive them to the airport. What they want to do is drive to airport and park car up near there until they return.

Sorry poor explanation of our requirements. We drive over in April/May with some supplies for the house, leave the car there and fly back, we can only get there in school holidays however as Graham rightly pointed out relatives go when we are not there, they also use our car. We bring the car home for winter.
Our problem is it would be far easier to have somewhere near the airport to leave the car as relying on friends generosity will soon cheese them off, so ideally something a short walk/taxi ride would be helpful.
Ray and Giselle.. we also have a blue and gold macaw...

We are in the same situation. We always have offers of lifts to and from the airport but you feel you are puting people out especially if it is an early or late flight so a place where the car could be left for short periods of time would be good.

I have the same requirement and this must be a common problem. The long stay car park at the airport is around 5 Euros a day I believe which is too much for me. There is a garage within walking distance of the airport and they have a large piece of disused land adjacent to them. No doubt they'd let me pay a smaller amount to park there but I would worry about security long term.

I have been receiving some PM'S that may be interesting to others wishing to have alternative arrangements for their cars...I am due to go to Corfu next Monday so will investigate further.

Would be very interested as we also are in the same situation. Also by the sounds of it there could be the interest in an airport run group, we would be interested from the NE.

Please check with Customs the regulations for your friends and relatives driving your foreign registered car- this is not an insurance issue- your policy can cover them- nor is it a police question (I think) but as a similiar thread said recently CUSTOMS have been known to confiscate foreign cars driven by people other than their registered keeper and their immediate family

When I first came here even the wife/husband/partner were not allowed to drive the car unless they were named as well on the log book. They have obviously changed this now.
