If there are a few more children like this articulate young man maybe Greece does have hope for the future. Whether you agree or disagree with his idea is not the point. The point is that he has thought about the problem and is trying to find the solution.
What a great article Trisa and as you say he has thought the problem through and if only it could be that easy... I think we are heading for the drachma which is not all bad in many respects at least this will attract the tourist for a short while until prices shoot through the roof.

Think Susie that most bankers reckon we will be staying in the Euro, at least for the time being.
Personally I think they have to forget tourism, or at least as being such a big part of the economy as it used to be- those golden days are never going to come back as so much more of the world is open now for people on a budget to visit. They need to find new industries- and fast!
That boy is great though, and certainly one positive of all this is that people of all ages are much more aware of economics, environment etc. than they used to be. Conversations these days, whilst often depressing, are much more varied than in the days when the only talk was tourism!

Me too Jackie. There are so many doom and gloom merchants around, we might as well all give up now if we listen to them. However naive, that dear boy spoke from his heart. I have solar panels which are great and wish I could afford a ground pump and a small wind turbine, but I can't.
We HAVE to be positive and we HAVE to believe that things will get better.
I remember feeling like this when we were under the Dictatorship and there seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel. But we prevailed and I truly think we shall prevail again. I have to say it is slightly ironic to have to do it all over again (for different reasons).
There are some members of this forum who are realistic which is fine, but there are some who are horribly pessimistic and some who are just blatantly rude, admonishing and contradicting advice kindly given and extremely hostile to certain members' well-meant comments.
Those of us who live here full-time really have to try to remain positive and to support one another, so bitching amongst ourselves is very counter-productive, I just wish each and everyone of every nationality who live in Kerkyra a quiet, hassle-free and peaceful winter.

I second that Lavinia.
