Hi,
Can anyone let me know what food restrictions apply for Corfu. I would like to take one or two bits with us on our first self catering holiday. Thanks.

We always bring cheese and sausages from the UK in our hand luggage without any problems... so far.

I didn't think there were any, I bought a bootload of food with me and whilst I suspect there may be banned seed, or plants it is unlikely that there would be anything else. Nearly all you would bring over is sold here pretty much, the only difference being cost.

You can save a lot by experimenting with the local produce.. its quite an adventure taking home a tin of something to see if its what you think, and then working out what to do with it when it isn't

From memory, there are no restriction on the movement of foodstuffs between EU countries - but have a look at the DEFRA website if you have any concerns.

Jan, I hope you're not encouraging the use of illegal substances!

No. just going to see if I can grow African tulip trees on Corfu- they flourished at relatively high altitudes and cool winters in Kenya- where they are called Nandi Flame Trees- go well there with jacaranda so thought I would see how they do here.

That's OK then Jan. I just got a bit worried about the "unfortunately" bit!

Sorry, but I have very strong feelings about the sale of cannabis having had a family member ruin his teenage years by being a user!

Good luck Jan

I was sold a Tulip Tree some years ago and advised to keep it in a large tub so it did not grow too large. This I duly did and every year it has leaves but no flowers LOL

Hey ho

I want them to grow tall- how long did yours take to grow to a reasonable size?

Well the grew to four feet in the first year, but they are now restricted by the pot so only grow to about 6 feet

They can grow to 80 feet in the ground!!!
