Did anyone else see the moving TV programme tonight about Ben Needham who just disappeared 20 years ago as a 2 year old little boy from outside his grand-parents house on Kos. His mother has not given up looking for him and battling with the British and Greek authorities for help. Recently she was contacted by the Kos police who offered to re-open the case and the case was also featured on a Greek TV programme. Following this programme a doctor in a town in northern Greece got in touch as he recalled seeing a young child sitting outside the hospital where he worked who said to him in English that his name was Ben, which didn’t mean anything at the time. That was about 9 months after the boy disappeared. He recalled that a gypsy woman came running up, smacked the little boy and took him away. The doctor was sure at the time that the boy was English.
Ben’s family at least know now that he was abducted. Just like in Corfu it was said at the time that there was no crime on Kos so the police did not treat it seriously as a missing child and did not start airport or ferry port checks for 3 days. It was left to Ben's grandfather to try to check cars as they went onto the ferries !

Watched it Dennis, my heart went out to her. I hope that one day she finds him, but a lot of time has passed, although he's her son to her, she wont be his mother to him.
Very sad.

I remember when it happened, it was so traumatic at the time, the grandparents only turned their back for a few minutes

One day they may find him but one wonders if he will even remember his name now let alone speak any English

As a parent myself I can't imagine anything worse than losing my son. Alex was born in 1995 and we took him to Greece when he was just a year old,to say I was paranoid after Ben had gone missing a few years earlier ,is an understatement we had one of those wrist band things he was permanently attached to me. My heart goes out to all parents with missing children xx

Sadly not a new phenomenon, must be almost 60 years since someone tried to steal my Greek cousin's baby in Manchester.

It looks like that doctor was right and the police failed to follow up so it was a big chance lost to find him but at least they now have an idea hes still alive, and maybe the gypsy community might help find him, lets hope and pray that this story comes to an end

By the way, what is the latest news of Madelyn McCain? I live in the States and don't always get the news from abroad. Was she found?

If only Ben Needham's parents had had the resources available to the McCains then maybe he would have been found. Not wishing to detract from the McCain's situation but there certainly was nothing like the kind of publicity when Ben went missing.

However, there are still posters being displayed about him. At least there were four years ago at the airport when we were returning from Thassos, along with Madelaine and other missing children.

We can only hope that one day he is found, even it is just brings closure for the family.
