After reading Tina’s lovely account of her holiday, I suddenly realised that I never got around to writing a report for mine – how embarrassing! We’ve been back for over 9 weeks and have spent two of those in Thailand, so details and order of events are a bit sketchy by now, but here goes!
Our first two nights were spent in Corfu Town staying in the Bella Venezia, which is as pretty and friendly as ever. We spent a lot of time just wandering the narrow streets of the Old Town and sitting on the Liston or in little squares, slowly sipping our drinks and generally watching the world go by. Then on the Monday afternoon, we were off on the hydrofoil to Paxos.
Nothing had changed at our usual apartment at the Manor House and it felt just like coming home, so we quickly changed into swimwear and trotted off across the road for our first swim of the holiday. On our first evening, we stopped first at the Europa bar to congratulate Christos on his new second storey and hear the tales of how hard he’d been working to get it finished over the winter. Our first meal was at Tolis’ grill and it was good to see him doing so well in what is only his second year of business. So well in fact that he had hired help in the kitchen, which gave him more time to do what he does best – chatting with the customers! Then on to Taxidi for coffee and brandy and a catch up with Spiros. Finally we returned home for a last drink on the terrace and all seemed well with the world – except one thing was missing...
The next morning, I awoke early and quickly pulled on some clothes to go and watch the sun coming up from the terrace. As I started to open the door, I heard plaintive meowing and there she was sitting on the doorstep, loudly demanding breakfast - my beautiful Manor House cat, who’s been a permanent resident and friend ever since we first stayed there about 7 or 8 years ago. The holiday was now perfect!
Unlike last year, we actually managed to leave Loggos – but only the once! We had a Saturday night out in Gaios and for the first time ate at Dodo’s. I’ve seen lots of recommendations for it on here and have always meant to try it out, so I suppose after 20 years or so, it was well overdue. All the recommendations are justified. Dodo himself is so friendly and welcoming, the pretty walled garden location reminded me a bit of Yianni’s, which long-time visitors may remember in Loggos many years ago and the food was absolutely yummy!
Loggos was quite exciting enough for the rest of our holiday though. There was some kind of International Youth Festival on during our first week and the finale consisted of giant (about 20 feet tall) puppets being paraded along the harbourfront. Another night we saw fireworks being let off, but never actually found out what that was in aid of . A couple of weddings took place whilst we were there and it never fails to amaze me how people can stand around on the jetty for what seems like hours, wearing formal wedding attire in the 30-odd degree heat!
Much to Mike’s disappointment, we never did get to see Pamela Anderson, who I suspect was long gone by the time we arrived on Paxos. But Spiros assured us that we hadn’t missed much and that he would have been far more impressed if she had been somebody really famous like Brad Pitt! He then invited us to his 50th birthday party next July, which promises to be far more entertaining – I think I’d better start building up my stamina now!
It was great to have Nassos open again and to see Dina happily strutting her stuff amongst the tables after her problems of last year and the big black hole that had been at the centre of the village. All the restaurants and bars seemed busy and the village was buzzing most nights (well as buzzing as Loggos gets anyway!), leaving us to wonder “what recession?”

What a wonderful holiday review thank you. We have often thought about a short stay in Corfu Town, I think you have made my mind up, a must do for next year also look more seriously into a holiday on Paxos, it sounds perfect.

We eat at Dodo's whennever we get to Paxos and agree that Bella Venezia is just lovely. It's location is just great, especially for a late night supper at La Cuccina! It is definitely worth "breaking out" of your accommodation for at least one night of your holiday.
For those interested, Pamela Anderson left via Corfu on Friday 8th July (on the 11.40 Easyjet flight to LGW).

Moony, we ate at La Cuccina one of our nights in Corfu, but although it was very good, for the price we paid (well over €100) it wasn't quite as good as we'd expected. Still prefer the Rex and another one, whose name I can never remember, which is next door to a very posh jewellers on the Liston and which you can walk straight through to its back entrance on the same street and almost opposite the Rex.
We just missed "Pammy" then - we arrived in Corfu at midday on Saturday the 9th!

Elaine, funny really, but guess we'll have to amicably agree to differ on this one.
We ate a late supper at Rex after seeing Harry Potter at the Orfeus Cinema in July..... and thought, when compared to La Cuccina, that it was a little overpriced and not as good.
I think the name of the other restaurant is Agethi(sp) which, I do agree is very good.
Pammy was quite "chatty" apparently, well, she talked quite freely to their 10 month old daughter!

...and it's done the trick! I've loved reading both your posts and its perked me up no end!
It took me right back to the square in Lakka Tina when I read about the children all playing together. I could feel the heat of the evening and the friendly buzz. Smell the food from the Tavernas and hear the sounds of chatter and children playing whilst the local men watch TV in the bar and the elderly ladies keep watch over the little ones...( Big sigh!)
Elaine I really fancy doing what you do ..starting the holiday in Corfu for a day or two ...mind you I'd have have to find a cheaper restaurant! Gosh!! I bet you have taken some lovely photos again. Like you I love early morning watching the world go by whilst most are still asleep. So peaceful. Yes I am there now.. sitting with a cold frappe outside the bar next to bakers watching the little boats bobbing up and down the occasional holiday maker strolling past and the bus coming down the hill...(double sigh!)
Oh and I am shocked! A full blooded Greek not drooling over our Pam!
I think we need more of these blogs on here as it makes a lovely change and its something to cheer us all up over the winter months. Story telling at 9pm each night??

Brilliant account Elaine! Loved reading it and can't wait to get there, hopefully next summer from our little house in Ano Korakiana. We meant to visit this summer but never got round to it. You have definitely sold me!
