Great Forum - I have just come across it planning my trip. Staying at Waves October 13-24 and would really appreciate any advice as to eating and things to do. Flying with Ryanair and using a tight baggage allowance - will I need to pack items for an English autumn (sweater, rain bits etc) or can I continue to dream that I can sit by the pool or beach and sunbathe in a tee shirt and shorts reading my books? Any tips would be well appreciated.

Many thanks.

Would bring at least one sweater and rain things- wear them for the journey to save using that precious baggage allowance

Hi vipflyer and welcome to the forum.

In October, you will probably need the sweater and rain bits if I am honest. Don't let that put you off though. Before we lived here we always had a week or ten days here in October and it was great.

If the weather should turn for the worse, find a nice taverna and plonk yourself down with a coffee and read your books! You won't be chased off! Corfu is not like the UK where you would be thrown out on your ear!

Similarly, if you have a meal, consider the table yours! Again nobody will stand there tutting trying to send you on your way, especially in October!. This is Greece. We don't rush! There are taverna owners on this forum and I am sure that they won't disagree.

My sister-in-law always used to travel alone, so I understand concerns that women sometimes have. All I will say is that Corfu is probably the most crime-free place on the planet. Most crime that is committed would almost never come to the attention of visitors.

Enjoy your stay!

Hi there, Waves is at the very far end of Sidari but a really lovely place. I haven't stayed but visited and the staff were very friendly; the guest I spoke with returns every year and says it is brilliant there. Nice bar and pool areas and apparently the food is very good as well. The small strip of beach opposite is good for swimming as you will see many locals there enjoying themselves. It is a 20 minute walk along coast to Sidari centre but a nice walk. Once in Sidari spoilt for choice re places to eat and drink and lots of entertainment. Cappricios near the small cemetary you will pass on way to town is nice. You will need a torch if returning to Waves after dark.
Have a great time.
