Just came across this on the greeceishome forum. Has anybody seen or heard of anything like this?
'Has anybody had this experience? Had a post office slip in my P.O box for me to pick up a letter from the post office. I signed for the official looking letter had a government blue stamp on it. As I could not make out what it was I showed it to a Greek friend of mine and he said it’s from the military they want to use my car in the event of a war. My car is a small Suzuki 4x4 Jimny about seven years old. I have never known any Brits having this problem.
I live down on the Dodecanese islands have lived here for the past 4 years. So any suggestions on what I should do would be extremely grateful'.
Sorry - don't know how to do the 'link'

I saw a comment about Turkey showing it's naval power in Turkish waters around Kastellorizo {Meis} yesterday. I do hope there is nothing sinister about all of this. Google it, as cannot remember where I read it.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone remember that amazing old lady on Kastelorizo who raised the Greek flag every day on the island and was decorated by the Greek government for her dedication to Greece in the 1970s? My late husband was doing his military service in the Greek navy in the early 1970s at the time of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and was sent off on a gun-boat which visited her.
I think Susanna is completely right, tensions are always running high in the Eastern part of the Aegean.

If it's who I'm thinking of she died in June aged 107 and was given a state funeral.

Back on topic... Apparently the increased naval presence in the Bosphorus is an exercise. And is one of the largest NATO naval exercises outside of the Mediterranean.
"...The exercise Northern Coasts (NoCo) was first held in 2007. The aim of the exercise is to prepare participants for potential NATO operations.
This year the exercise Northern Coasts is combined with exercise Danex. Consequently, there are also references to current, real operations. To the security of international maritime transport is by blocking threats such as pirates, terrorists or possible intervention by nations in the freedom of maritime transport..."

I think you will find that all this Turkish activity may well be to do with the tensions that exist between Turkey and Israel also the offshore exploration for gas by the Americans and Greek Cypriot government off of Cyprus which Turkey doesn't agree with..which in the long run would involve Greece if there was any hostility's.
