I've spoken to my accountant about this and he tells me that as Im renting it is me who has the benefit of the property and I have to pay it! If I was to take the stance of John and Hilary my electricity would be cut off and then the box removed...and then yah de dah..
Extract from Nigel's earlier post from ekatimerini:
5. What happens if someone refuses to pay the tax?
Public Power Corporation (PPC) or other electricity providers will disconnect the supply until the bill is paid. If the owner does not apply for a resumption of power supply, the provider will strike the owner off its list of customers and inform the state, which will then take measures to collect the tax. Changing electricity provider, meanwhile, will not be possible.
It also seems that I can claim back the tax by witholding it from my rent which probably means I would need to get an amendment to the rental contract drawn up ...should the bill be passed!
Its all good fun isnt it! She says tongue in cheek...

Hi Dextercat
Sorry it appears that I added to the confusion rather than helping to clarify it!
The zone co-efficient in the table corresponds to the "price zone", which on your bill is the 498.00 and the 128 is your square meterage. So as 498 corresponds to zone co-efficient 3, you would multiply 128 x 3 x the age co-efficient.
At least that is how I understand it works... at the moment

Using the calculating formula it looks as though we will be liable for a property tax of 480 euro's.
We will wait to see if this is correct...or not!

Ok. heres one for you all, how the hell do you work out the property tax if you are not connected to the Electric supply and are powered by solar panels instead!! In the UK people who have over supply from their solar panels with agreement with the National Grid put that power into the Grid and get a reduction in cost of their power bills! Does this apply in Greece?

Shhh, they will not have thought of that one so those with solar and wind power and no mains connections - should be OK - until someone lets the cat out of the bag
