I don't want to clog the FIRES thread up, but in response to Lavinia saying how slow the internet connection can be on Corfu at busy times, can I just say I am amazed there is a connection at all while the fires are raging! Have been wondering how people would get any info at all if it did go down. Do the authorities go round with loudhailers warning people to evacuate or stay indoors? Whatever the advice may be? It must be a godsend to people to be able to log on for the latest info.

Thank you again kassi for that...that was the entire point of my first post.   It is so essential to us who live on Corfu to hear local news of the fires, so that we know the situation.   It is really scary to see clouds of smoke and red skies when we have no idea from where this is emanating.   Our exchange of info is very important which is why I suggested that the forum just concentrated for a day or two on the fire situation.   I am south of town but my internet access has been a bit ropey today and several friends have had similar problems. So normal questions about restaurants, beaches etc. I felt should take a back seat until this dreadful crisis is resolved.   We are all feeling very twitchy and depend on our friends on Agni to keep us up-dated.

I have wonderful neighbours and I am sure if necessary they would bang on my door to get us all out, but I would like a little prior warning if possible!

At the risk of repeating myself ... keep safe everyone. Let's all pray for rain. And be thankful that so far no people or property appear to have come to harm
