i have just asked one of my fellow contributors (HE knows who he is!!!) but i was not able to get an answer, so i thought i'd throw it open to the floor

we are hoping to buy a house in the near future.  we have driven all over the top half of corfu, but the villages all seem to 'run together' in my mind...we have been looking at some website info about a house in choroeskepi (is that right?) but for the life i can't remember what the village is like, apart from where it is!!!

can you enlighten me?

becky (having a senior moment!)

hi becks , when coming from corfu town .heading to roda sidari acharavi etc. you will usually go over the mountain route , once over the apex you start to go down { obviously } you come to a bend inthe road just after the quarry  straight for sidara bear right for roda ,acharavi you bear right  you will pass a petrol station on left .a further mile or so is the place your looking  for  im sure it is called choroepiskepi

thanks chaps - i did know where the village was (spellings are all very loose on corfu aren't they?)!

what i wanted to know was, did anyone know what the village was like; any tavernas, cafenions, shops etc.  i know its a bit off the general track, but knowledge here is very wide-ranging!!

Hi Becky....we are building in the NE and as such won,t get a sunset , but that is where we want to be . We are not in a village , but if we had wanted to be we would have gone for Pelekas . Have you been there ? It is very high up and has stunning sunrises and sunsets. There are a few UK residents there inc. a Thompsons rep and his family . He says he feels at home there cos of the friendly locals .

Regards...John & Hilary

yep, we've had a look at pelekas, but really want to be on the north, roughly 'above' a line drawn from ipsos to paleokastritsa.

any suggestions?  at the moment these are looking favourable:

karrousades, dafni, nymfes, episkepsi, choreoeskepi

thanks again

becky

Hi Becky.....I have been talking to Bish who has a house in Xanthates on the road from Troumbetas to Acharavi....I was out there last week for 4 days to sort some legal stuff and called at the village to see if he was there.....I was very impressed having walked around the village and spoken to a few of the locals . .......The road thro is not as narrow as some [ which in season can be a nightmare ] and the buildings spaced out very well...in all a very pretty / friendly village.

Regards.....John

Hi Becky

The likes of Karrousades and Rachtades give you access not only to the nice villages but also to the beaches of the NW coast and a shortish jouney into the North.

Closer to Paleo - Prinilas, makrades and Lakones offer pretty villages. I passed thru Doukades (not far North -east from Paleo) recently and although I didn't stop it looked a lively large (for Corfu) village with possible potential.

Looks like you'll be busy on your next holiday.

We had a look at a house in Episkepsi before we bought ours and had a quick look round the village. It seems a nice little place and has great views. If your after peace and quiet it's ideal.

Hi Becky,

We are renovating our house in Karoussades and can thoroughly recommend the village.  Will be moving out there next year hopefully.

I agree with Ian Lakones and Makrades are lovely-the views are to die for. Doukades is also good and the people there have nearly always (I've heard one bad story)  been welcoming to new arrivals. With these villages you get loads of peace and quiet but it takes no time at all to get into town. Good luck
