We have now booked our flights and two weeks HB at Liapades Beach Hotel, really looking forward to a new place to explore. We have downloaded five walks from the village, none are very long, but all sound very pretty and end at a beach. We will have to pay dear old A.G. a visit, couldn't be in Corfu and not go there, but will hire a car for that and a trip into Corfu town for lunch at the Rex, really love sitting eating and people watching there! Three weeks today, can't come soon enough.

caramac64 there is nothing brave about going independent! Just check that you are not paying more and go for it- you will have a lovely surprise!

Incidentally flights from your local airport may not be as much as you fear- check sites like travelsupermarket.com

I read that there is a local Bus that goes between the local villages around Liapades, Doukades, Paleo, Lakones etc.

Mind you this info is a year or two old. Maybe you can check it out.

Look forward to reading your review when you get back. Have a great time.

Thanks Viv, do hope there is still a local bus going around the villages. Will write my usual diary while we are there and then I can post a review for you. It can't come soon enough, but in the mean-time we have the pleasure of our three young grandchildren to stay over the Bank holiday.

Thanks also to you, Lavinia for telling us about Mitsos and his family. Had a great conversation with Michelis (not sure I spelt that correctly) who I think is Spiros' brother about our intended stay. Does he keep the hotel and taverna nearer to the village?

Hi Kaytee

I think Michelis has his own Apartments and Taverna as well and yes it is nearer to the village (or it looks like it on the map) he also has a Supermarket.

On that link I posted earlier if you went into Apartments you will see Michelis apartments and click on that and you can read about his place. He has a swimming pool as well and a pool bar so you can pop up to him for a drink as well.

Hi Jan, we have been booking Corfu independantly for nine years now and wouldn't do it any other way. We have had some good deals for accommodation but the flights get more expensive from East Mids no matter when we book! Really looking forward to a new place to explore but will be back to dear old A.G. next May.

We always go indi now! We are 1.5 hours away from Gatwick but did look at going from Luton but it worked out more expensive. Will look at this again as you have to take into consideration getting to and from the airport or parking. It seems many of the TO's are going along the AI route nowadays and our favourite, Agios Gordios, only really has Sea Breeze or the Aquis through TO's, so no contest! We were looking to explore Liapades this year, so am about to show husband their website! Also going to go to the salt flats near Lefkimmi (courtesy of Janmanessi's instructions how to get there), Old Perithia and maybe Vidos island. Can't wait!
