The new butcher shop is on the road out of Paleo towards Corfu town passed the junction up to Lakones on the right hand side of the road. Been open about 2 years now. It is a bit of a walk but can be done. It is the same family that have the butchers in Lakones.

Didn't find it!! I don't know, it is past the junction for Lacones, up the hill then there is a junction on the right for Liapades, go past that and a few more yards on the right is the butcher, set back with a large car park, you just can't miss it. But it looks like you did, better luck next year.
If you like BBQs Saturday night at Faros is the best, great food and Yannis does a bit of Greek dancing for you.

BBQs are not bonfires (depending how you cook!). Yep bonfires not allowed until 01.11. Please remember most (not all!) fires are deliberately started. Try starting one in a metal bucket with a cigarette butt if you want. It can be done - but very very difficult.

Cannot reiterate enough that in the present circumstances I don't think anyone should be having BBQ's because of the fire risk. Open fires are banned in Greece from 1/5 to 31/10 and in a lot of cases I would class a BBQ as an open fire - even the ones with chimneys I have seen sparks flying out of the top. In the past I have had to put out a fire because of someone using lighter fluid to light the BBQ which set fire to the adjacent olive tree. People don't seem to realise that just one spark is enough to set the hillside alight. I don't want to be a killjoy but please take care.

Completely agree and I have just got rid of my BBQ for that very reason. If my neighbour saw smoke coming from my garden, guaranteed within 5 minutes I would have a fire-engine turning into my driveway. I quite agree that BBQs should not be used at this time of year, especially in view of the current circumstances.

I cant believe anyone in their right mind would want to stand over a BBQ in this heat. Spring, autumn and winter but not in the height of the summer.
You are so wrong to think fires havent started with BBQs and cigarette ends. Obviously not these fires that are raging if they are arson but it only takes one tiny spark in this tinder dry summer! Wouldnt it be better not to even take the risk?

I know I will be battered down for saying that I barbcue about 3 times a week, we have the hose next to the barbcue and put the barbcue out as soon as we have finished cooking. My dad was a fireman so I am very fire aware but as GUV1 said as long as you are sensible and never leave it unattended, I never use lighter fluid though. I still am travelling behind cars where a cigarette butt is just flung out of the window without a care in the world, and these just lie at the side of the road smouldering, with all the rubbish that follows that it isn't any wonder there are so many black patches at the side of the road.

Cigarette smoking too, during summer only should not be allowed, car windows should be taped up with a security seal between May and October.
Everybody should be forced to wear boxing gloves from the moment they wake until the moment of bedtime thus not enabling them to operate a lighter if they felt the inclination to start a forest fire or set light to the rocks on the mountains or the sand on the shores as we all feel inclined to do occasionally.
Of course there is compelling evidence that barbequing food actually creates carcinogens which could possibly kill you before you reach the age of 132 (same goes for enjoying burnt toast of course).
I could go on but I think it's better to just say 'keep safe out there and in the words of the immortal Dave Allen 'may your god go with you'...

My comment referred mainly to the sale of PORTABLE BBQ's
If you want a BBQ at home then yes have a hose pipe on stand by - I put very fine wire mesh over the top of my bbq chimney to catch sparks and bits flying off. I have a bucket and a hose pipe on standby even in the UK.
Anyway - how would you eat your breakfast with boxing gloves on?

I really think that good sense should prevail here. Barbecues and spit roasts have been taking place in Corfu since time immemorial. Yes, there have been fires before but nothing on the scale of these to my knowledge.
Lets hope that if it is arson as reported that the culprit(s) are caught very quickly.

I've been away from the forum for quite a while until recently. Occasionally, 'she who must be obeyed' draws my attention to a topic that grabs my imagination! Yup! You've guessed it. This is one! Loved your post but you have missed out one obvious point!
Don't you consider it sensible for an officer of the law to board all planes and ships etc. before passengers disembark and advise everyone that, matches, lighters and any other similar items should be deposited in bins upon arrival? (Notice that I did not use the 'C' word for fear of having this post removed or the thread deleted! )
They do it in Burma in respect of cannabis. Surely this is not so far removed?
I hope that before anyone gets upset about our take on what is a serious subject they take a deep breath and consider that anything that raises awareness of what is a serious matter cannot be bad thing.
Personally, I wouldn't respond to my post!

Have to disagree. There is an excellent butchers shop on the road from Kavadaes/Arillas into Sidari. Really good meat and virtually half the price of the meats in the local supermarkets. We always buy our meat there.

Why is lamb so expensive?
Leg, chops etc the same, if not more, than the UK.
Last time we bought a leg of lamb this was 22+ euros and was frozen.
Anyone know of a butcher on the SE that is more reasonable?
I love it boned, marinated and done on the BBQ, yummy.
