Hello All

I may be better putting this question on the Kefalonia message board but here goes.

We are coming to Corfu for ten weeks from the end of April and thought we would go over to Kefalonia for a while. I've never been and wondered if anyone could suggest somewhere to stay which is similar to Kalami (or any other suggestions)?

Thanks

Alison

Hi Alison,

I haven't actually been to Kalami so don't know for sure what its like but imagine it to be a pretty and quiet resort.

With this in mind I would recommend somewhere like Fiskardo, a pretty seaside port on the northern tip of the island (and I think, where you will port on a boat from Corfu) or even more quiet and pretty is Assos, a pretty little village halfway down the west coast, close to Myrtos beach the most photographed beach on the island. Sami is another beautiful place to stay, on the east coast of the island, its where the Captain Correlli movie was filmed a few years back.

Hope this gives you some ideas

Dean

Hi Alison,

I have not been to Kefalonia so can not give you a specific resort which would be like Kalami but have a look at the resort guides for all of Kefalonias' resorts' to see which one you like the sound of best.

I hope it helps.

I agree with Dean -

Fiskardo is the where the oldest architecture is found on the island as it was the only town that was left relatively undamaged after the 1953 earthquake.

Assos is spectacular and great for a very peaceful rest, but it can be rather isolated if you don't have a car.

Sami is also lovely and there are quite a few tavernas and bars now since the movie came out.

On the south coast, you would probably enjoy Katelios very much - it is probably the resort that more people come back to than any other on the island.  There are a handful of great fish tavernas and a few bars.  Apart from that, it is peace and quiet.

But for me, the best resort of all is Poros, with its long stretches of beach.  It has a harbour and a marina and a village square and loads of good, cheap tavernas.  There are bars to suit any taste and the locals still treat you like a long-lost friend.

But, wherever you choose, I am sure you will really enjoy Kefalonia.

Stuart

If its peace and quiet you want Katelios is good but real piece is still available in Zola or Atheras located at the North of the Lixouri Peninsula,  peace is still available here even in midsummer.

Agia Efimia is Lovely,it is just down the coast frim sami there are a few shops and some Tavernas on the sea front ,one called Captain Corellis where a lot of the film crew were supposed to eat. in the evening a lot of yachting flotillas tie up there to eat in the resturants. and as some one has already said Assos is lovely too especially at sunset .The drive down is a bit scary though

Dear Alison I haven't been to Kalami but I live on Kefalonia! There are 3 flights a week from Corfu into the Airport in the south. Nearest resorts to the airport are Svoronata and Avithos, then Minies, going along the coastline. There are villages up the hillside but I would suggest staying near a beach. In Minies it is very quiet with some accommodation, one mini-market and lovely beaches with no water sports etc.

Hello Francesca,

Do you have any idea what the cost is for a return flight from Corfu and also how long it takes?

All this talk of Kefalonia has made me want to pay a visit.

Same here Eileen, sounds lovely.

We had a direct flight to Kefalonia for only one saeson from Scotland, but they've canned it as it wasn't making enough money. If only they'd advertised it more, I'm sure they'd have got enough bums on seats.

Eileen and Trace,

If you like Corfu (which I am pretty sure you both do!) you will LOVE Kefalonia! it is a beautiful island with all the greek hospitality you have come to expect but if anything the scenery is even better, give it a go sometime, you won't be dissappointed.

It's a pity Trace about the lack of flights from Scotland, I will have to check out Newcastle seeing as it is only 1hr 30 mins from me.  Although I quite like the idea of splitting up one of my visits to Corfu with a week in Kefalonia.

So yeah Dean, you have twisted my arm I will give it a go sometime.

Dear Eileen, it's really cheap, about 80 euro return I think but check with Olympic Airways  reservations@olympicairways.co.uk or ring them in Uk on 087 0606 0460

Dear Eileen see www.kokolis.com avithos resort hotel - lovely new apartments you can book direct, 15 mins from the airport (don't worry, no airport noise) If you fly in they can get a taxi to meet and transfer you.

Got to agree with Stuart on this one - Poros on the east coast gets my vote, it has everything you want including peace and quiet.
If you do go, don't miss out on a trip to Argostoli the island capital - excellent shopping and some wonderful tavernas set out round a magnificent old square - very swish.
LOL..........Jedi
