I'm trying but not going too well. Hubby's birthday today - daughter cooked lunch and I couldn't resist the roast potatoes (mash was available) followed by chocolate gateaux.
"Girls" night out tomorrow so will start again on Tuesday.
Scales are my enemy at the moment!
Will get back on track eventually.
Have been good for the last 3 years but fallen off the wagon for last 5 months following an illness.

I now have to lose 2 stone for my daughters wedding in September.

I agree Dave I can lose it fairly easy but come winter time it creeps back on again. I now have the task to lose 2 stone before my July holiday, which has a big birthday for me so even more of an incentive for me to do it

I have also overindulged on two previous holidays - gaining 1 1/2 stone!!! so I am now being really good and now hoping to shift the excess weight before my next holiday in May, so far so good at the moment I have lost 2 pounds last week so it's going in the right direction...

Malcy I dont think that makes a difference Ive weighed myself before Ive got on my treadmill and no difference after a 4 mile run, as long as you weigh yourself at the same time every day. I keep a calendar in my kitchen and log my weight on the same day each week usually a Monday. Its always the same on January 1st every year give or take a couple lbs. I would say Im a typical yo yo dieter. As Dave says its easy to lose but hard to maintain.

I have always been told the morning is the best time to weigh yourself.
Also if you like the taste they say a Cup of Warm Lemon Water first thing in the morning is good for you (like a detox for your body) a link below shows the benefits of drinking Lemon Water first thing in the morning.

I managed to lose 10 kilos over 3 months a couple of years ago using a low Glycemic Index diet called "The South Beach Diet". I was quite amazed and am now doing it again as I put some weight back on.
I keep reminding myself of the mantra
"Diet and Exercise combined!!!"
I found that I had to quite single-minded and avoid the temptations other people put in your way - "Oh just a wee taste won't do any harm", etc!!

Have to say Tina. I have been drinking this for over 7 years and back in September I had my first cold in 7 years. So it must work.

This is becoming my area of expertise, thanks mainly to the Mrs.
Research the Cambridge diet, if you are serious about losing weight you can lose 6 stone in six months, just as she has.
Also, think of your alcohol intake, one pint of lager - 200 calories.
I recently quit drinking completely (15 months ago) and as such I have lost 2 full stones without really trying (except for stopping drinking, that was exceptionally hard)
The Cambridge diet teaches you how to eat healthily, start by having portion control, ditching big dinner plates and using a side plate, that way it still looks like you're getting a full dinner, albeit a little smaller.
Drink zero sugar drinks, they have only 2 calories per can, no 'full fat' coke and other variables, cut down on snacking, if you do snack, have carrot sticks and cucumber, surprisingly filling with a glass of water.
Sounds tough, but, if you seriously want to lose weight it's well worth the effort.
Think how much easier it will be to walk back up the hill to your apartment with a few stones off.
Steve

A friend of mine needed to lose 20 kilos - I reminded him that it was the weight of his limit of luggage to put in the hold of an aircraft and asked him how he felt lugging a heavy suitcase around. He was doing that every day, up stairs etc - no wonder he needed a hip replacement.

Need to get megga fit. Start next week though. Straight after Christmas is a tough time for anyone trying with a diet. Stick with it everyone.

I posted on this same subject last year about this time! I had 2 stone to lose (Slimming World). I did it, and had a great holiday, wearing a bikini and feeling good about my body for the first time in years (before kids!) You can do it! I must admit SW was really easy for me. The Cambridge Diet looks great but, for me anyhow, the cost would be prohibitive. All my weekly savings that go towards Corfu holiday would (literally) be swallowed up! At least with Slimming World/Weightwatchers you can eat normal food.
Anyhow, I've got to get back to doing something otherwise Greenpeace will be moored off the coast of St Stef in July, trying to save me!

To be honest the plan (the one that I did) was complete meal replacement so I only spent on it what I would of spent on food shopping for the week. For me I had so much to lose I needed to do something drastic and it worked and gave me the results fast

If I could lose 2 or 3 pounds that would spur me on. I can push myself. My sport was cycling. Road Race and time trial. To achieve 241 miles in a 12 hour time trial was hard! Losing a few pounds in weight - Very hard so far!!

For years I was a yoyo dieter - low fat, GI, Mars Bar, High Fibre etc etc - after a while you realise that all diets do is guarantee you will put weight on - how many people do you know who have been to Rosemary Conley or WW or SW or whatever and have kept the weight off permanently? When you join something like Tesco On Line diets the message boards are full of people confessing to stuffing a bar of chocolate or a bag of crisps with all the attending guilt! A couple of years ago I read Marisa Peer 'You Can Be Thin' - it's not a 'diet' - it's what you may have heard of - along the lines of stop eating when you're full, always leave something on your plate etc. I got rid of four stone - easy peasy - which I havent seen an ounce of since.

Have had a look at Youtube Tina.
Have practised some steps. Now am exhausted but I had just finished doing my weights exercises.
By the time you get to Corfu - you should be in the extreme advance class. Which Taverna will you be showing your new skills in just so that someone can take a small video of you doing the Zumba.
Will it be Mike's in A.G

Have a look at the Pierre Dukan diet - the actual Dukan site will tell you a bit but the cost to join is scarey - so I looked it up on the various links that come up when you google the diet and then bought the book. I did the diet last summer and lost two stone in a few weeks and kept it off. This is the first time ever I have kept weight off! Friends and relatives have tried it and all had good results.
Yes it is like the Atkins diet but there is a difference. I never managed to stick to the Atkins but did manage to keep to the Dukan.

Just started 'Patrick Holford - The Low-GL Diet Made Easy - the perfect way to lose weight, gain energy and improve your health'.
I have tried Rosemary Conley, Slimming World and Weight Watchers since 1972 - I lost 2 stone for my wedding in 1973 & over the years have lost an average of 2 stone with each organisation.
Now can't shift it! Felt like a beached whale on Agios Georgios NW beach last August. I wore a sarong/kaftan over costume, ran as quickly as possible into the sea to swim, sprinted back to beach & did an Aneka Rice to get the kaftan back over my head!
I will let you know how I get on with the Low-GL Diet. Hope to start Pilates soon and go to the gym - need to lose 2 stone before April or end July (next time we are in Corfu) April sounds a bit optimistic!
I might ask friends and work colleagues to sponsor me per pound in weight and money will go to the Cornwall Air Ambulance.
Good luck to everyone dieting.

I work alongside an NHS Area (trial Run) and it is mainly helping the 50+'s to find activities within their local area, from walking groups, indoor bowls, tai chi and so on and have now bought in Zumba classes for them and if they are grandparents they like the idea that the grandchildren can go with them, so they all enjoy it together.

Hi All, well done to all those who have lost some weight and dont get dishearted if you havent, it is not easy!! I started really well this time last year and in 2 months had lost 18lb, then it all went up the hoover and by the time I went to Kalami I was only 5 lb lighter, which I proberly put back on. Vowed not to diet any more, but I am trying to eat more healthy and be more aware when shopping not to put things in my trolley that will call out to be eaten when Im bored or fed up. I am also keeping to my 3 swims a week which I enjoy and I do zumba in the pool which is a lot easier than doing it in a dance studio. The water hids most of the bulges, and the water weight bearing so easier on the joints, but the instructor ensures us it works as well. The secret I think is not to beat ourselves up about our weight, I am sixty one this year work full time do my swims and try to keep active, and I am a stonking 15 stone at only 5 foot 4, but Im here I enjoy my life grand kids hols etc. and I would love to be slimmer but its not the be all and end all. Sorry if I been rabbiting on love to all and good luck with the healthy eating xx

Well here goes... I have so far lost 5 lbs!!! and my sister has lost about 3lbs.
We have been visiting the gym three times a week for the last two weeks combining a couple of classes with the gym on a Friday evenings.
We do Zumba on Monday nights which is great fun and a good fat burner - our teacher is an ex-member of the nike street dance crew and boy she can move her thang!!! but it's great exercise and the music is really fab too!!!
Now then for the Thump Class on Tuesdays!!! I had a bit of an episode last week with my sister on our first visit which had the class in fits of laughter. It was my turn to wear the pads whilst she boxed... well she wacked me on the chin and also on the knee!!! How the hell she managed that I don't know - ended up wacking her back with my pad and threatening to tell our mum that she was beating me up!!! The class and our trainer Andy are fab though - a real fat burner and he shows no mercy (me and my sister gave him grief last week and said he was a fattist!!!) lol but boy did we feel the workout - and yes even though it was hard work (especially with my sister almost knocking me out!!!) We have signed up for both classes every week.

I was surpried when I came across this topic in Paxos holiday questions forum.
How about having a new one starting for people who have lost weight and maintained it.
This should help all the people who yoyo and pay money to be told what is really commonsence anyway.
If you are overweight you eat more than you need.(unless of course there is a medical reason)
Simple.
So eat less and exercise more for ever not just a couple of months!

Hi All, well I started my diet 4th January by buying a new set of bathroom scales and getting out my slimming world books.
I am living in Corfu and there are no classes to go to so I have had to be brutally honest with my husband who is now doing my weigh ins!! I also bought kitchen scales so I could accurately measure the food that I have to, luckily with slimming world red and green days, you dont really have to measure except for your healthy choices.
I have to admit I do save my syns for the weekend because I dont eat a lot of chocolate and would rather have a glass of wine or two with my slimming world curries at the weekend!!
I have lost 11lbs so far, I cant cheat because hubby doing the weighing.
We are walking much more, and this afternoon are doing a walk over the mountain way, a route someone has recommended, I have to just keep going I have a long way to go but must admit its nice to read everyones different stories, will let you know how mine is going. Good luck to you all

Rosy, as your Slimming world books may be a little out of date, did you know that slimming world now has a third choice? So you now have red, green and EXTRA EASY. The extra easy plan is basically...you no longer have to limit the protein or the carbs on any given day...so you could eat pasta/baked potatoes/rice etc freely along with your meat/fish etc....BUT you can only have one of the healthy extras, so either a bowl of cereal for example, or two slices of bread per day. The sins allowance remains the same.
Try logging onto www.slimmingworld.co.uk and they give you a seven day trial menu for the extra easy! Good luck! xx
PS Admin....Angela Chapman is right! Shouldnt this very informative thread be elsewhere on the forum? I used to start one every year in a similar vein on the beach...but obviously only 2 star members can see that.

The one last ear started by shakespear was moved to the Kafenon Section from the General Comments site.
This Topic always gets a good beating. Especially as the holidays get nearer and the lovely summer wear appears in the shops.
We will be OK this year though - for those who were seventies girls - it seems the baggy bell bottom trousers are in and Maxi skirts. Also so are the Wide Waist Belts as well.
Also the Punk Rockers - who is going in a Bin Bag with a safety pin holding it together.
OK back to weight loss.
Have started my weights again and my calanetics and going swimming again and 20 mins on excercise bike in the mornings. Onwards and upwards or if swimming forwards and backwards.

Wow, don't go easy on us fatties will you. Tell it like it is it why don't you!
As someone who has fought a constant battle against excess weight for over 25 years now I do find this comments rather blaze (should be an acute over the e).
Everyone is different, some people find it much easier to maintain a good weigh than others do. It's not just a matter of less food, more exercise. For a vast majority of people who are overweight there are psychological, social, economic and educational factors to consider. Support groups can be massively helpful to some and shouldn't be condemned as a waste of money.
I really do find elements of your comment very condesending. If you want to start a thread to support people who have already succeeded in losing weight and kept it off that's great, but why not actually do it rather than having a jibe at those who can't attain a sylph-like figure as easily as I presume you are able to.
PS, Viv, be sure to use a plastic coated safety pin, the heat on the beach in summer can make metalic objects uncomfortably hot, and I'd hate to see you with a sore nose
Message posted by sooz on 09 February 2011 at 9:37am - IP Logged

LOL Bill, you took the words out of my mouth (again)! As you know, I'm not exactly sylph like and have been struggling for years to get back to something like a healthy weight! But having one dodgy knee and two dodgy shoulders does not make it easy to find a form of exercise that will not cause further damage. I also work full time and find it difficult to fit in any exercise at all...hence tonight I am starting at Gymaphobics for their 30 minute workout! I find that lots of really slim people do not work (at least full time) and have plenty of time to visit the gym during the day!
It's so easy to say eat less, exercise more...it's far more difficult to have the courage to admit you are wrong on both counts and to try to do something about it! So more power to all of us on this forum who know we need to do something and are brave enough to admit it!

A case in point...my friend Lynn (who is visiting Corfu with me and Mr Eliza for the first time ever this summer!) is like me - 50 something...but thats where the similarity ends! She snacks on junk all day, often has chocolates for breakfast! and eats huge meals and desserts! She does no proper exercise at all.
Then there's me. I dont snack, eat three small healthy meals per day, walk the dog and swim /exercise most days.
So going by Angelas theory...who is the slim gorgeous one and who is the dumpy cuddly one? The slim one should be me of course!
BUT because everyones metabolism is different...Lynn remains a slim size 10, whereas I struggle to squeeze into a 12...
Yes eat less and exercise more is very good advice...for your health. But dont assume it necessarily makes you slim

Well for it's worth, I love all women not matter what their size are, and unless your doctor has told you your weight is bad for your health then don't live all your life trying to slim all the time. I have lived for years with Maria telling me she is over weight...I can't see it myself, all I can see is a very beautiful and loving women who has worked her butt off for me and the family...what more can I want. If your doing it for yourselves, great...but if your doing it to please others forget it.
I have a daughter who is 45 years old, 4ft 9ins tall, and who is a size 8 and can out eat anybody in my family and she can scoff a large box of chocolates in one sitting and never put on a ounce, she takes after me, and then there are those in my family who only have to look at food and they will put on weight.
So back to the beginning of this post...I think you girls are all lovely no matter what size you are, because your all 's

I also agree with Bill (again) I also thought the post was a little degoratory to say the least!!! Didn't make me feel too great either...
Everybody is more than aware that a sensible diet and exercise is good for you... but for some it's not that simple as Bill says, psychological, emotional healthwise etc some people have these hurdles to overcome which is not that easy and for some it's a lifelong battle.
I have also never been a svelte size 6/8 and have also overindulged far too much over the years... the result was an overweight mum with a muffin top... as you get older the body also fights it's own battle trying to shift the excess pounds you have gained over the years and it's a real struggle...
Last night me and my sister were weighed at the gym and I had lost another 4 lbs!!! My sister on the other hand had not lost anything she was extremely disheartened by this but I was there to support her every step of the way and she is determined to continue with the healthy eating and exercise.

Hi all, like I said in an earlier post, if it was easy to slim we would all be slim. But that wouldnt do, because some people who are naturally slim or work their butts off to stay slim would have no one to be superior to!! We are all made different and thats what makes us interesting and unique. And if anyone wants to feel lovely and slim on holiday, come and sit next to little fatty me, I dont mind as long as you buy me a drink and pass me another cake!! lol Ann xxx

To put the record straight,
I am 3 stone lighter now than I was as a young woman,
I eat sensibly, I don't diet,
I don't go to the gym.
Eat sensibly for life, not just when you go on a 'diet', and don't eat more than your body needs.
Cut down on foods gradually, use a smaller plate to start with, get your body used to eating less, slowly.
Think of your weight in 2 years time not just this summer holiday.
The words fat or thin, should be replaced with healthy or unhealthy, or happy or unhappy.
I have maintained my weight for many many years now and yes there are challenges, but it's your body, if you don't look after it no one else will.
I would be more than happy to give anyone any helpful advice but it is no quickfix.

I remember the day I lost my flared trousers for good.
My Son was 5 years of age and his class in school was putting on show "The Circus Comes to Town" he was to be a clown.
Yes I took my last pair of beloved bell bottoms and also a white shirt of his and a pair of braces and sat there all afternoon sticking these bits of felt on with glue. Could not work out why I felt dizzy when I stood up lol I had been glue sniffing all afternoon. Also glueing yellow wool in strands to a hat to make it look like he had long yellow hair.
The things we do for love.
Still will be able to go and buy some more now Malcy with maybe a bigger bottom as they are back in Fashion.

Well done Rosy, I have now lost 10lb in total since I started my healthy eating and upped my swims from twice to 3 times a week. I have been to do zumba in the water this morning a real good laugh. Now Im off to work to do my 24 hour shift, looking after people with learning disabilities. It is so hard to motivate myself at the moment but want to keep busy as hubby having tests for cancer and not looking good, and I might lose my job will find out in 10 days. Sorry for the moan said I would only have positive thoughts today and we have a holiday booked for Corfu in June.Fingers crossed xx

Absolutely agree with you!!! I got rid of my excess weight a couple of years ago with 'selective eating'. The relief of not 'dieting' was immense. I finally realised that slim people dont have a different metabolism, they eat 'what they like' but in much smaller quantities and then stop when they're full up. I would recommend anyone reading these posts to try selective eating - as I know from years of experience - when you 'lose' weight on any 'diet' you can 99% guarantee if will all come back.
p.s. I'm not really expecting anyone to take any notice of this message - it's a tad boring as I'm not banging on about struggling with my weight.

Bit harsh marymouse, like to think we on here to encourage each other and I am trying to do what you have achieved. We are all different and yes we all know we should be more selective and eat less and in an ideal world we would all be slim. None of us would have holidays so help to save the planet, etc etc. We are all human and along the way we all need help and like to offer help, if it was easy there would not be millions of pounds made out of the slimming industry. Thats me off to work now be interesting to read the replys tomorrow, hopefully it wont end up a slanging match. Love to all whatever your size Ann xx

I'm actually trying to help Ann - but you have proved my thought that it would be seen differently. I went through years of dieting - losing 4/5 stones at a time and then putting it back on. Dieting doesnt work. I am encouraging people to try something staggeringly easy. I used to eat chocolate and crisps till I felt sick - now I just dont want to eat them at all. I've read these threads for ages and just got fed up of reading messages from people who, at the end of the day, arent really helping anyone to shift weight permanently - they are just sympathising that they struggle - and staying on dieting treadmill - just like I used to. A few years ago, when I dieted with Rosemary Conley etc I would have been narked at reading what I'm writing now. The reason the slimming industry makes so much money is people keep on trying different diets because it doesnt work. I'm just saying that getting rid of weight permanently doesnt have to be a struggle - sorry if that seems disagreeable.

For me, the key is most definitely portion control. It must be the simplest way. I can't be doing with calorie or point counting or weighing my food. I'm too lazy! With portion control you really can eat pretty much what you like, just less of it.
I just couldn't stay on a 'branded diet' for the rest of my life which you would have to do to keep the weight off. It must be an easier life change just to eat less.
For most of us, obviously not all, the reason we're overweight is that we simply eat and maybe drink too much which we just have to face up to.
The most liberating thing though, for me, is that I now never weigh myself. Once those skirts and jeans start to get loose, that's all the encouragement I need to continue!
The Christmas sweets are all gone so I have no distractions apart from the next Taverna lunch on Sunday!
Will power! That's all it takes! Sounds so easy doesn't it? I wish!

Tina - I'm quite happy. I've lost another 2 lbs this week and Rosy, I do a Friday morning weigh in!
But Tina it has taken me into almost unknown territory.
I now go through the week without any alchohol, cheese, chips at lunch if I'm out on the road or chocy/fig biscuites to munch at the office during the day. But I do go on the rowing machine and bike most nights.
I'm still naughty at weekends with a curry and a nice wine but for the first time I am losing weight.
My head is slowly coming up Tina, I won't be the Adonis I was when I was 22 but I might be able to go topless soon!!!

Malcy...as my husband says to me...'you aint never gonna be 18 again Liz'... and thats where we go wrong.
I know I eat healthily, because I just had the MOT at the docs, and my cholesterol/blood sugar/liver/kidney function etc all came back perfect!
I would love to lose a stone or two...purely for how I look...but my body is healthy...so I am not going to beat myself up. I do lots and lots of walking with my dog, plenty of other exercize (Zumba LOL) gardening, swimming...
OK I have some blubber, prefer not to BUT if I lose weight doing what I am doing FAB...if not I am not depriving myself of anything and I am certainly NOT going to give myself muiniscule portions of healthy tasty food for the rest of my life...
I am what I am !
I will never be skinny again but enjoy what I am eating!!!

What an excellent post Lizzie! I've avoided commenting on this thread before now because, following my op in December I've been taking steroids on a daily basis. My weight has ballooned out of all proportion and I was desperately afraid that I might be forced to take them for the rest of my life.
Yesterday I was given the all clear to start reducing the dosage and I'll be off them altogether in 4 weeks from now. I know I'll never again be the 8 stone sylph I was 20-odd years ago and I'm not going to beat myself up trying, but so long as I feel fit and healthy and I can get back into my size 12 jeans without feeling like I'm wearing a steel corset, that'll do me!

Good news Elaine, I'm sure once you stop the steriods the weight will drop off quickly!
Lizzie - I had my MOT a couple of months ago and apart from the weight and (controlled) high blood pressure, everything came back OK! So, I think that proves in my case at least, that there's not much I can do to improve my eating (apart from cut down on the drinking) and it's EXERCISE I need to rid me of the excess tonnage I've accumulated since having a dodgy knee!
I have my next session at Gymaphobics tomorrow...so far, so good!
Let's keep this thread nice, folks! Positive comments only, please! None of us who post on here find it easy to drop the pounds/inches and we need all the help we can get!

I agree with you Sooz. I also think that I can't improve much on what I eat. I just have to eat less of it!
We eat very healthily. We have to as OH is diabetic. The dietician at the diabetic clinic told us that it's very dangerous for a diabetic to be overweight and that everybody could and should follow a diabetics diet. They can still eat pretty much anything, including sugar, but portion control was THE most important thing. That's where I slip up!
You're right, Trisa. A few months ago I bought a Diet Plate which sets boundaries for portion sizes! It's amazing the difference between a "Sue" sized portion and the correct one! It's made me far more aware of how much I eat, even if I sometimes succumb and pack away more than I should!

Ive recently started using a smaller dinner plate my daughter made (its extra special) its in between the size of a dinner plate and a cake plate. Im again on my annual Corfu diet and have about 2 stone to lose which I can do very easily every year. Im extremely careful during the week but on a Saturday I have my Indian and wine/vodka.
For me its not losing weight its maintaining it is the real problem and during winter when your wearing jumpers etc its easier to hide.

Hi all, I have not seen the smaller dinner plate although I have heard of them. I take weight watcher meals to work that goes against my religion, but I work in a house with people with learning difficulties and they love cake and all sweet stuff, (they all in their seventys) so allowed a treat, this is my way of not being tempted and then when I make a meal at home I use the empty tray from my WW meal to measure my meal before I put it on the plate and fill up with salad or good veg and the weight is slowly coming off, BUT it does seem a lot slower than when I did healthy eating when I was younger. Maybe not having 3 kids to chase round after, but 8 grandkids and full time work should balance it out. Anyway just finished work so hubby pouring me a well earned glass of red wine and I promised my self to stick to one so he better make it a large one!! Good luck with your weigh ins etc lol Ann xx

I try to use the plate for most main meals. Naturally, when we have people round then it stays in the cupboard! The idea is to keep protein in the place marked for protein, carbs in the carb slot etc., etc. You can pile it as high as you can as long as the food doesn't go over its boundary. Not quite sure what would happen if you had very square chips...it could be a challenge to see how many could be piled up. Generally, however, if it falls off the pile then it's too much!
I got mine off E-bay, I'm sure they would post to Corfu. They also do a cereal bowl and a man-sized diet plate, as well as a children's version.

Well Ann - at the moment I have having to keep my sister motivated hence why I decided to join the gym with her the beauty is I needed to do something anyway to motivate myself because quite frankly I was becoming damned lazy!!! I will admit it but my sister was also becoming the same with low energy and an ever increasing waist line and my sister's job involves a lot of driving around the north west so not much exercise whereby I do walk over a mile to work each day.
The benefit to us both has been enormous - our energy levels have increased a lot and we are enjoying visiting the gym three times a week together - motivating each other. Healthy eating wise is going good too although I still allow myself a treat and don't deprive myself of too much, so far so good at the moment.

Third weigh in at weightwatchers last night and was over the moon that I'd lost another 3lbs (9lbs now in total). Great as I've had a stinking cold for the last week as I've sucked 100s of strepsils and drunk gallons of honey and lemon mixture!
I'm really motivated but wish I hadn't got to this weight in the first place!

Well, a week on and four visits into Gymophobics and although it's too early to notice any real difference, I can certainly say it hasn't done me any harm. The scales are, if not heaving a great groan of relief, gently sighing that my weight is slowly but steadily reducing (even if it's only a few ounces a week).
But, the best thing is that I've broken the "lazy" cycle of sitting at work all day, driving home, cooking and eating dinner and slumping in front of the TV for the rest of the night. At least now I can sit down after my workout, get out the laptop and not feel like a total couch potatoe!

Be Prepared is my motto at the moment
Some of you might remember I have become a none smoker!
Four weeks this week without a fag I was quite happy with the way I looked, clothes fitted me easily enough although I always opted for the same size and knew what suited me and what didn't.
Today I bought a dress Sadly I have to alter it!
Tooo large on the bust, shoulders and arm holes--should I take it back and get a refund
I should have known better than to purchase a dress with a side zip as they are nearly always fitted!
After struggling with the zip I asked the assistant for help--up it went no problem!
In fact when I got the dress home and tried it on once more, I managed to get the dress on over my head, without the zip being opened!
Have I lost weight?--No!
Why is the dress on certain parts of my anatomy tooo big?
Because I bought the next size up--in anticipation of gaining more weight and trying to hide my now Humpty Dumpty shape
Damned if I do and damned if I don't or--
Stuck between a rock and a hard place
The colour of the dress suits me
At least that's a positive!

I've been a bit resticted with exercise for the last couple of weeks. Minor Op on back. Didn't want to pull out the stitches but still lost another 2 lbs!!
I'm now realy focused on what food I should not have too much of and it seems to be working.
Must admit I had a weak moment when I had to go to Mundesley on the east coast last week and had a chip and fish cake lunch in a car park looking out to sea. Lovely.

Well back on the Stomach Crunchies and other stomach straining excercises.
You may think that 10 Stomach Crunchies is not much but when you hold each one for 1 minute believe me when you get to the tenth one (10 mins) your stomach believes it has been put into another world (a world full of pain ) then there is the excercises where your back is against the kitchen units (sitting on the floor) bring your hands up to hold on to the work top and try lifting your legs of the floor and doing the splits with them. I can manage nearly 200 in 4 mins that is another one for the Stomach that brings on the pain.
As they say though No Pain no Gain. Who ever first said that phrase needs to be shot
Well another week hopefully another 1lb.
Good Luck Girls & Boys

I, like Michelle find I can stick to it all week if I know I can relax a bit at weekend maybe it does not come off as quick, but at least it helps me stick to it. Hi it's my fifth weigh in at weightwatchers tomorrow. I did really well at the beginning losing 3lbs each of the first three weeks. Last week I stayed the same and was really disappointed especially as we hadn't gone out at all the previous weekend and I had been really good the rest of the week. So you'll appreciate that I'm on a bit of a downer as I hadn't changed either my eating habits nor my limited exercise regime.
I have no idea how I've done over the last week as I dont get weighed anywhere other than weightwatchers but I'm not looking forward to it at all.
Wish me luck!

Hi Rita dont be disheartened, I have had this happen all the time. We do tend to lose more at the beginning, then even out to maybe 1 or 2 pound a week, which I am told is the best way to lose weight, but if you are like me and want it to come off yesterday and all at once!! I have even had weeks when I have struggled and give in to temptation and still lost weight, and other weeks when I swim 3 times a week eat really healthy and have put it on, its really frustrating. But I hope you have lost again this week and even if the weight is hard to shift, our health must be benifiting from the better food and any kind of exercise, and I allow my self treats at weekend, but dont go over board like I used to. I am realistic now and know at sixty one I am never going to be a size 10, and neither do I want to be. Good luck with the weigh in and dont beat your self up if not as much as you want. lol Ann xxx

Ann is right. Do not beat yourself up over staying the same for one week. At least you did not gain any pounds, that is a plus sign.
Look at it this way. Even though you lost none last week over the course of a Month you have lost 9lbs. 2lbs 4oz a week is a good weight to lose. So stay positive, because positivity will help you lose the weight also much better for your health than negativity. Just keep looking at that silver lining in the clouds.

You could always get weighed at different classes worked around your shift patterns. It can be done if your in the right frame of mind. No Im not a leader, got within a couple of pounds of my goal, went on holiday for a week put on 10lbs while being good but not good enough. I really need to get my mojo back, mind over matter and all than.

Hi Sally I know about doing different classes looked into it but the two classes that are near me both fall on days and times I cannot go. I work 24 hour shifts (with sleep in middle) and I would only get one in three classes. Thanks though for that info, maybe losing my job soon with council cut backs so may be able to go then, or if we cant afford to eat wont have to!! lol Ann xx

Well done Rita on your weight loss - don't get disheartened when you don't lose anything one week - it's coming off that's the main thing.
Me... I have lost 1lbs this week but it's bringing me a step closer to my dare I say 'normal' weight (by that I don't mean what the experts say I mean the weight I am happy with!!!) I have dropped again this week with my BMI too which is now well on it's way to being a normal rate. Still a way to go but still doing the gym and my classes and healthy eating - with the odd few sins thrown in for good measure...

Well said I was not going to keep weighing myself, but go off how my clothes fit, but could not resist the scales cause for first time felt a bit slimmer than when I started the healthy eating on 4th January. Glad I did cause I lost a stone. It will give me a bit of a boost, if I can keep this up I should be over 2 stone lighter when I go to Kassiopi in June. Keeping fingers crossed we get there, Alan went for his CT scan yesterday, sixth time hes been to hospital in 4 weeks, they seem determined to get to bottom off his problem, should get all results in about 2 weeks so hoping it nothing they cant make better. We got busy year ahead, I been made redundant so looking for job,we moving back to Darwen to be nearer family, the 7th move in the 12 years we been together, hope its the last, but when life keeps changing got to go with the flow, well thats enough rabbiting from me, need to get my jobs done before family come for tea all 8 of them!!xx

Well done Rita - I think I probably lost a bit less than a pound this week but I didn't go up.
The most rewarding thing, and I'm really quite chuffed.
I've dropped down a waistband size. I can now comfortably fit into trousers I've not been able to wear for quite a while (no Viv not the flares). If this keeps on I might be able to fit into my summer linen shirts without straining the buttons.

It's Clean Monday here in Greece tomorrow. The start of Lent, which for most Orthodox Christians means doing without meat and meat products, dairy, fish but not without shellfish, olive oil and wine up until the big feast at Easter.
If the rules of penitence are to be observed strictly, no food should be eaten between meals during this period and smaller quantities should be consumed at mealtimes,
Now, if only we could all do that...!!!

Well we went out for a family meal last night to celebrate my nephews birthday and I used up the 49 weekly points allowance that the new weightwatchers diet allows. I dont feel bad about it as we had a lovely evening. Although I shared a bottle of wine with my niece, I did only have a half portion of pasta - and didnt eat it all so my stomach must be shrinking (on the inside - I only wish it was shrinking on the outside too!!!)
It will be interesting to see what the scales say on Wednesday as I have a theory so lets see what happens.

In the past two years I have dropped 2 1/2 dress sizes, without actually "dieting". I have done this by cutting out nearly all sweet things (i.e. no chocolate, cakes or puddings except on very rare occasions), very few snacks, masses of vegetables and fruit and fish and shellfish cooked in olive oil. I also walk for at least an hour a day in winter and swim an hour a day in summer. I have fruit, fruit-juice and a cup of tea first thing, a salad for lunch and a proper supper - could be meat or fish and two steamed veg (with wine of course) and it seems to have worked. I think it is a gradual process though. When it is very hot in summer my appetite just dies away! I think you have to find the right way to eat for yourself and if you love eating a particular thing you should have it in moderation but balance it with other things which are "good for you".

I have healthy cereal for breakfast with semi skimmed milk...a wholemeal sandwich with low fat filling for lunch plus fruit and a yoghurt...then my evening meal would consist of meat or fish/veg or salad/and roast/mash or baked potato...plus the odd alcoholic drink or 2...OF COURSE!
walk my very energentic spaniel briskly for 40 minutes (at least) per day, then do a gym class or swimming twice a week......

Well I am totaly confused with my BMI that Michelle spoke about in an earlier post.
I have a low or normal BMI depending on which one you want to listen to
I went on three different sites put in my height and my weight.
1. Said my BMI wast 20 and that was normally.
2. NHS - Said it was 19.5 and that I should put on weight. My goodness that is the first time I have been told to put on weight in nearly 57 years.
3. This was Weight Watchers said I was 19.5 and that I should lose another 6lbs in weight
I know that I do not have to lose weight now but just keep it on a healthy level.
I enjoy reading your posts though girls and boys because having been over weight myself for most of my life. I know what it is like to reach a stone loss. The joy of buying that size smaller outfit and I just love reading your posts and hopefully help urge you on when you feel that you have had a bad week.
Keep it up Girls and Boys as far as I am concerned you are all

I don't know about you, but I find it quite disturbing that the NHS site is saying you can afford to put on a little weight, whereas Weight Watchers are saying you still need to lose more. I know which one I'd be more inclined to believe - the one that didn't stand to make money out of me trying to lose weight! It's not hard though to see how normal-sized teenagers might be persuaded that they're fat, with all the awful consequences that can result in. Scarey!!!

LOL Viv BMI can be confusing especially trying to calculate it!!! The rule of thumb is usually BMI of 18 and under - means not enough body mass and that you are underweight - 19-25 is the healthy BMI and over 25 is too much body mass and over 30 BMI is dangerous as apparently this can bring with it all sorts of health problems, diabetes etc.
I try to strive for 24-25 mark which my Doc says is a healthy mass.
And for the record Elizajay - I had a big sin this weekend but still lost 1lb!!! (profiteroles with squirty cream!!!) and they taste so much nicer when they are a treat.

Funny that was the first thing that went through my mind - anything to get a few pounds out of me in both ways lol.
Also as you said about the teenagers who maybe look at these sites very scary.
Lucky for me I came out of my teenage years last year

Well I've started to use me pedometer again. Its a pretty good one so trying to do the 10,000 steps a day which is supposed to give you a lower BMI, reduced waist-to-hip ratio, and if you do more than 10,000 then the benefits are even better. So does this mean I can have my brandy and drink it if I achieve this every day, or do you think it may not work. lol

Please can I offer some advice:
These are things that worked for me, it's okay joking and being light hearted but do you want to lose weight and keep it off or not.
If you need help read on, if not don't shoot the messenger.
You all talk about food, but no mention has been made about what you drink (apart from alcohol)
Drink lots of water about 8 glasses a day. Cut down on drinks containing caffeine, tea, coffee, excessive caffeine may produce a drop in bloodsugar which can result in craving for sweets.
A hot drink can take the edge off your appetite, sometimes we are actually thirsty and not hungry but our brains don't always register the difference.
Cut down on carbohydrate and increase protein.
Low fat ready meals, low fat foods in general often contain more sugar. Read all packets and tins to see how much sugar they contain, you may be surprised that something you eat and think of as healthy is full of sugar.
I don't want to bore you just help you if anyone is interested.

It's good advice Angela although the 8 glasses of water a day!!! My Doc says you are fine with 4 glasses per day as long as you are drinking water on a daily basis, there is no need to drink 8 glasses each and every day.
I agree with the pre-packed low fat foods though. I watched a programme about them and realised that what they take out of in respect of cals, fats etc they make up for in sodium and sugar so swings and roundabouts.
I have started to eat more 'normal food' but control my portion sizes especially in the evening. I continue to have soup and yoghurt or a wrap with some kind of meat or fish filling for lunch. Always have my breakfast - it's the law!!! Yes drink water but not 8 glasses a day otherwise I would have to live in the WC forever!!! and balance my eating with structured exercise three times a week as well as walk over a mile a day to work and yes sin at the weekends and I am feeling healthier and more positive. Even my nails are growing well and not splitting!!!
And last night at the gym me and my sister wandered into unknown territory - yes an ABS class, yes it hurt like hell but I do feel good today although I will never achieve the washboard tummy - I did feel I had worked muscles I didn't know still had any life in them at all...

8 glasses a day is a good guide, it was difficult at first but after 3 or 4 days you actually will feel thirsty and want to drink. Once your body is used to it you don't spend all the time in the loo. Depending on the size of glass of course but 1 1/2 litres is a good judge, that is only 3 small bottles of water.
Don't know what scientific sence it made but my granny always said drink water and wash the fat away.

Well I try to usually have a glass in the morning and a large glass throughout the day at work but in summer I have 2-3 large glasses and then one in the evening... although when I do the gym I drink a fair bit of it, don't know about washing the fat away though - especially when it's more like a stubborn stain that doesn't want to budge!!!

Hi Angela, great advice I'm always open to ears where extra advice is available. I always joke about my weight course if I dont it will run meself into the ground or hit a brick wall. Been there many a times and it not nice.
If you look back to some of my previous post I'm a sucker for exercise espicially walking an biking. As for water. Most days I dont allow myself a drop of alcahol till I've drank the recommend daily water allowance. Hard to believe but true. Always start the day off with lemon and water.
Unfortnatly I have to carbs, the amount of exercise I do my body wouldn't function, bearing in mind it has to be the slow release carbs. Seeded bread. porriage [cant spell it lol] potatoes an so on. And all my cooking is done from scratch. Those ready meals should of been barred off shelves a long time ago. My goodness I've gone to serious shut me up.
Right wheres that brandy lol

Seven years ago I was getting through a Large size jar of coffee on my own a week. I had so much caffeine inside me I ended up with sleep deprivation, 1 hour a night of sleep. So I cut the coffee back to just 3 cups a day, I do not drink tea at all (just because I do not like the taste).
I now start the day with a cup of hot water with a slice of Lemon in it. The Lemon is 1. Good for you, 2. Wakes up your metabolism system and 3. It gives your body a detox. I also have a bottle of water beside me all day, so probably do get through nearly 8 pints of water.
As for the low fat frozen dinners - also read the Salt Content as well in them as well as the sugar.

I drink lots of water all day...not sure if I reach 8 glasses but I think, in total, not far off it.
Have one coffee in the morning...thats the total of my hot drinks during the day...after my very long march with billy first thing I am desperate for a cold drink, so have a pint! (of water!)...then have water throughout the day, after lunch etc...
My big vice (!) is a mug of Horlicks Lite before bed...it does seem to help me sleep, but although it is low fat I think since I started it, the weight has been really really difficult to shift...hmmmm sleeping tabs have no cals and no sugar...maybe I should resort to them...?????

I agree to with drinking lots of water, also helps skin, and I used to get bad headaches but drinking water does help. Always have a glass about 5 minutes before meals and does help to fill you up. It can only be good if it helps flush out toxins etc. I have just booked a colic irragatin today for next week, got IBS and I believe it helps with digestion etc. As anyone had one and if yes were there any benifits, hoping it will also help with diet if stomach clean. If you have IBS you should speak to your doctor before having the C.I.
I have heard conflicting reports about it, but if it makes you feel better then why not, won't make you lose any weight though apart from the pounds in your pocket.

Only know one person who as had it and she has IBS and she says she been a lot better, but I know everyone different, so will now do this. I know it wont help lose weight but if my stomach isnt bloated all the time, hoping it would help make me feel a bit better. I swim at least 3 times a week which is a struggle when working full time, but find it helps keep me motivated to stick to healthy eating. Good advice. I am trying to drink green tea instead of coffee - recommended by a physio I met last week. Have tried green tea with apple and pear and it's delicious!
Also got weighed last night and stayed the same weight - however I did go out with the family last weekend and had a great time so no regrets - you cannot deprive yourself all the time. So total weight loss to date still 13.5lbs - gosh I did think I would have shifted half a pound to get to my first stone but still there's always next week.

My friend drinks green tea all the time and swears by its benifits, shes always been really slim, dont think I been as slim as her since I came out of nappies so I try anything once. They say you have three sets of muscle in your stomach. Obviously you must be getting to lower ones which look after your spine and rear. When you hit them you know everything is working great.
I really fancy the kickboxing. Gosh get rid of a lot of tension with them. With the kickboxing do you have to bend your toes at all only because I have steel pins in toes am a bit frightened about damaging the toes.

I'm watching Red Nose and feel guilty. I'm trying to eat less whilst so many don't have a choice. I've made my donation. The eye thing really got to me. Our 15 year old Border Collie has the same problem but too old to be safe to operate on.
My news is that I have now lost 1st 2lbs since 10th Jan.
I'm going into the wardrobe this weekend to see if I've dropped down a size for the old summer gear. My target now is to lose another stone before I see the Boy's at the Roxi Bar for our boat on 3rd June.
I think I'm the only bloke on this trip. Come on you fat guys give me a hand!

Well done Malcy, hope you get into your clothes, may have to get yourself some new ones for your new slim figure. Thanks again for starting this post, must be one of the most popular ones on here, just shows how many people struggle with their weight. I to just watched comic relief, makes you realize how lucky we are, lets hope our money makes a difference, heartwarming to see how generous people can be even in these hard times lol Ann xx

Heh all you good people.I went for my weigh in and after a few days over the Lake District and lots of food and hot toddies to keep me warm in tent I was very convinced I would of put weight on. Thought at least 3lb, but to my amazement I stayed the same. I was over the moon, most of been the trek up to Grisedale Pike that help. Been for a lovely 45 minute walk with the dogs this morning. Worked up a good pace. Raring to go this week.I do love this post as well.

I'm finding this post so encouraging as it is ordinary people (not fitness fanatics) trying to lose weight in so many different ways.
People who are honest enough to say they have been a bit naughty.
I've been naughty this weekend as usual but my weekday working of diet and exercise will hopefully show another few ounces of loss!
Friday morning on the scales is a hopefull/scary thing.
New clothes sounds good Ann.
Keep at it Cads.

Thanks Malcy. My weigh in is a Thursday night but my weekend is a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday off work. So I try to be good on at least on of those days, then the rest of week til Thursday. Well the weather isn't looking to bad out today. So going to have a bike ride. 24 miles the route I'm doing. Have nice rosy cheeks when I get in. Mum be here for late lunch so I can reward myself with a few red wines to keep me sane.

Cads - I pumped up the tyres on the bikes today, that wore me out to start with. We have a nice ride from where we are at the top of the town across the fields and then down to a village pub for a rest and then along by the river back to town. Only about 10 miles but a good excuse for a couple of beers in the village pub.
My sport was cycling way back in the Iron Age. 237 miles over a 12 hour time trial race was hard, so I took up sailing!!
The excersize bike upstairs isn't the same as being out in the fresh air so we are going to be out on the roads soon.

Bike ride to the pub sounds like my kind of exercise Malcy, as long as it down hill on way home. Cads hope you enjoyed your bike ride, I get weighed on Monday when I bother. Try not to do it every week, using my clothes as a way of checking, if they tight, they shrunk in wash, if they fit, still shrunk in wash, if they bit baggy, yippee!! Hope everyone else trying to lose weight are doing OK, I wonder what our joint weight loss is. Maybe that something we could look into on a rainy day lol Ann xx

It's uphill coming home!!!
If I can put something on and not have to stretch it so it fits over my tum then it is all worth it.
And it seems to be working so far. Now for the big push over the next 10 weeks. By the time I get to the Roxi Bar I will be as fit as a racing snake with the body of an Adonis.
Dream on said my wife!!

Very impressed Malcy with that mileage. Had a good bike but on way home got stuck in the crowds of football fans. They were coming towards us as we were going towards them. It was a scary few moments to say the least. Today is maybes walk along beach and tidy up garage or go an do a big hike on part of the Cleveland way. Or that could be tomorrow. Sun is shining and got that Spring in me step that you have when summer is on its way. Yippee

Well done to everyone who has stayed the same or lost a bit of weight this week. I've just read a couple of posts about losing weight / going down a clothes size and thought I should say that I'm now wearing a pair of trousers I bought at Christmases 2009 that I couldn't get into last Christmas - I couldn't get the waistband to meet let alone get the zip up. I'm over the moon because the trousers that I have recently been wearing and which are now too big will be going into the charity bag!
This has prompted me to ask whether we can lose inches off our bodies - even if we don't lose weight? Does anyone know?

Well done Rita, I think clothes are the best way of telling if the weights come off where you want it to. When my son got married years ago I lost over 2 stone but only went down 1 dress size, so prefer to see what fits better now and that seems more of an acheivement than the scales. Good luck all on your weigh ins etc lol Ann xxx

In answer to your question yes sometimes when you do not lose weight one week and if you do a little bit of excercise this will tone up your body which can add to the inch loss. Also though do remember Muscle weighs more than Fat.

Well I haven't lost anything this week, but I am not too concerned... although I am concerned about my sister!!! who now sees the thump class as a great class to relieve her stress and tension - problem is I am the one on the receiving end of all the thumps!!!
Our trainer was very impressed with her commitment last night and has said he now fancies using her as his partner for next weeks session - I hope he doesn't forget or I will be in for more punishment next week!!!

Need to eat carefull over the weekend end to allow for few drinkies.

I was weighed at WW on Wednesday evening and lost 2.5lbs making my total weight loss to date 16.5lbs (over 8 weigh-ins). Feeling pleased with myself (and because Norman said that I now had a saggy back-side - he quickly redeemed himself by saying that it was my trousers that had a saggy back-side!!!) so I bought a new pair of jeans - a size smaller. Weigh-hey (sorry)
Still a long "weigh" to go (sorry)
Good luck to everyone with your healthy eating

"Obviously your body need sugar intake - hope you really enjoyed eating it - well that is what I always tell myself"
Please be aware that the body does not need extra supplements of sugar. Humans obtain sufficient glucose from potatoes, rice fruit etc. Problem is that we get addicted to sugar. It is an acceptable recreational drug but it destroys human health slowly, causing obesity, disrupting normal brain function, heart disease and diabetes (and therein often blindness or amputation). Like nicotine, there should be a health warning and a higher tax levy on refined sugar products, I reckon. Treat sugar with some caution!

But am sorry to report that I am gaining weight at a rate of knots! 2 very hectic weeks meaning I have had to grab what I can when I can...(meetings/legal hearings with my cousin where I have been her representative, the other side had a solicitor...its been scary!!!...then amidst all that I have moved house...yesterday! so once I had cleaned the cooker, I couldnt cook anything!!! So chippy tea/low fat ready meal/shop bought sandwiches/and last night...the ultimate sin!!! Lots of much needed alcohol...and dominos pizza/mozzarella sticks, chicken wings!!!
I plan to do a big shop on Monday once I have finished unpacking..and have warned Mr E...the diet starts here!!! so shall hopefully be able to join in with the success stories soon!
On the plus side, I have packed and cleaned and moved furniture for 10 hours a day for about 4 or 5 days...so hopefully that was a little bit of damage limitation

Please be aware that the body does not need extra supplements of chicken wings. Humans obtain sufficient flight power from easyJet, British Airways etc. Problem is that we get addicted to queuing in airports. It is an acceptable recreational drug but it destroys human health slowly, causing short tempers, irritability, high blood pressure and sore feet, disrupting normal brain function (and therein often the inability to think sensibly when purchasing items at the Duty Free).
Like nicotine, there should be a health warning and a higher tax levy on chicken wings, I reckon.

I think sometimes it is better to keep your opinions to your self, I have looked after people who unfortuatley are brain dead through accidents illnesses etc, and believe me you would not like to be in those poor souls position, and I dont know what there families would think of you, as for me, in future I will just ignore your posts, malcy, dont give up, you will always get support off most of us who post on here. I have stayed the same as I have had a wonderful weekend at the lakes and have risked getting all kinds of terrible things happening to me, but losing my sense of humour wont be one of them. Good luck to all this week at your weigh ins. LOL Ann xxxx

All I will say about the above comment made, may I suggest if you don't intend on offering anything constructive to this topic, then please don't reply to it.
You clearly don't have any issues with your weight (but some of us have)a nd this topic is designed to offer support to those who are trying at least (and yes with some humour along the way), don't get me wrong Angela some of your replies have been constructive but the most recent which I'm sure other posters will agree with, is quite frankly rude and no doubt upsetting to others.
You may feel your blaze comment is fine, I beg to differ.
So again if you feel that the only constructive comment you can make on this subject is like the one you have made above, then I suggest you don't bother.

I was going to stay quiet, wondering if I was just being oversensitive, but as I'm not alone...
My father in law, who has always been slim, doesn't drink coffee, is a non smoker who has never drunk to excess and has always enjoyed a healthy diet is now wasting away in a home, suffering severe dementia thanks to Parkinsons disease. Not quite 'brain dead', but with very few and limited moments of lucidity. He's been getting progressively worse for over 3 years now. It's pitiful and heartbreaking to see him and the other residents in this condition. I sincerely hope you never find yourself or your loved ones in such a tragic and incurable situation Angela.
Like Ann I'll just ignore your comments in future, your latest offering is nothing short of spiteful, and your closing comment proves you expected it would upset people. Well done, you were right.
A healthy lifestyle although reducing the risks is no guarantee of a healthy body and mind. Best of luck to all who're trying to tip the balance in their favour, and I hope the scales are smiling at you this week

My last post was something which I knew would get your attention.
Don't you realise that some of you (no one in particular) are still not grasping the obvious, you will not keep the weight off that you manage to lose unless you change your eating habits for life.
All this dieting and weighing in and spending money on diet clubs will still be happening next year too.
I have lived with diabetes for many years, my mother died after being in a diabetes coma for 6 months when she was only 5 years older than I am now. My sister has had type 1 diabetes for 35 years (not related to food) so I do understand how sugar has an impact on your health.
In my own way I am trying to make you see that unless you take what you are trying to do a bit more seriously the next thing you could end up with is type 2 diabetes,
Angela

I can see you are clearly trying to use a shock tactic to make us all on this topic more aware of our eating habits and I will repeat again you are only reiterating to us what we know already!!!
I'm sure the posters aren't that stupid not to understand what can happen if you continue living a sedentary lifestyle with bad eating habits... of course we all know the implications.
But Angela I get the impression you think you are preaching to a bunch of 40+ stone, bed ridden morbidly obese people!!! The fact is that we are probably all overweight to some extent, and yes some more than others and I will be the first to hold my head up and say yes I am overweight by a stone and my BMI is 27.2. I eat healthy, I attend the gym and yes I have the occassional sin, I understand the concepts of healthy eating but I also understand that there is nothing wrong with having a treat now and again.
Now you might be happy living on pulses and water and rabbit food, but for some of us the mere thought of that makes us dizzy with hunger and I will repeat again what most Doctors again will say, as long as you combine your eating with good old fashioned exercise then allowing yourself some kind of indulgence whether it be a chocolate bar or a sugar loaded drink is fine, although make sure it's in moderation.
Remember Angela we are all trying to change eating/drinking habits that we have become accustomed to for years, for some it's easy, others not so.
So please rather than put us down at every available opportunity please by all means offer support but in a less hurtful and offending way.
Rant Over.

Pulses, water and rabbit food. I think not. Where did that impression come from. Anyway this is not about me, it's about a healthier lifestyle.
Again I have to defend myself.
This thread is about people who want to lose weight and I assume not having to do it all again next year.
I am not putting anyone down just trying to get through the fact that dieting is useless.
Healthy eating, that's everything in moderation and not eating more of it than your body needs.
Wether you want to lose a couple of pounds or several stone makes no difference.

Ok Angela I understand your point and as I have stated some of your comments have been constructive, but the comment about thin and brain dead, very fat, clever and so on does not sit well with me or the other posters (I'm sure I don't just speak for myself). This topic is about people losing a few pounds by whatever means they see works for them. I also don't believe in diets because it has been proven they don't work, I do however along with all the other posters believe in healthy eating combined with exercise but also understand how difficult it is to change eating habits, you become institutionalised to those habits and they are very difficult to be weaned off!!!
Please don't think we are using this topic as a joke - we aren't we are just trying to offer support to each other - yes I agree it is more light hearted but we are still taking it very seriously.
Your points Angela in the main have been constructive and your previous comment did prompt a response but not because we don't understand that an unhealthy lifestyle leads to ill health and medical problems later on in life, because we know that, it was the rather unsensitive way it was delivered.

But it was the way to get your attention, and if one person can see the point of not being consoled endlessly when the next piece of pizza or cream cake gets eaten that's fine.
Re the brain dead thing does not anyone see that was not meant literally, after my mother was literally brain dead I am not heartless, it was just one of those things said and not to be taken to the literal sense...
I am sure we all use phrases that sometimes would cause offence if taken literally.
