Jackie, just returned from holiday, so missed your post - maybe I could have swung the Irene for you before you rebooked Messonghi! We have been going to Agios Gordios and always stayed in the Olga apartments near the Irene and used their pool for our kids, but the Olga was with Kosmar, so when they went bust, we had to find somewhere else! We stayed there last September as they had a good offer on via their website, had a pool and mountain room, fab view. Rooms were just what we wanted, basic and clean. We never cook on holiday, just a coffee or tea in the mornings and the little kitchen has a kettle and fridge with crockery and cutlery if you want to cook and a couple of electric rings. The Irene is split on 2 sides of the main little road in from Corfu town, the rooms fronting on to the street maybe would be a little noisy for our liking, that's why we chose the mountain side. We have known Gregory and Yannis for 10 years and they have always been polite and friendly. The pool is fabulous and the bar snacks and drinks are good value if you don;t want to move away from the pool for lunch! They have a twice weekly family BBQ which we love. There are some photos on "my photos" of the Irene and also lots on their website. Yes, you can stay in a more up-market apartment in the village for twice the price, but we are like you - just want somewhere clean to sleep, have a shower, brekkie on the balcony with lovely view, good value for money and quiet. It is, however, very near all that you would need - supermarket, bakery, bus stop to Corfu town, car hire if you need it, souvenir shops etc. Hope this helps for next time and if you need any other info, just ask Jackie.

Thanks for your reply ele56, I really appreciate the trouble you have taken. Does sound like my kind of place, hopefully we may meet up with you one day!

Jackie
