Are second hand cars cheaper to buy on the Greek mainland than they are on Corfu?

To buy a car do we need Greek residency and, if so, how is this gained?
Also, insurance and tax, where abouts do we get this?
Anyone have a small, inexpensive car for sale?
Any help will be apreciated.

Yes to buy a car you need Greek residency here in Corfu at least. To get this you take your passport and two passport photographs to the police station and the immigration office there. It took us seven days to get our residency but I heard of others having to wait longer. We got our tax and insurance sorted by asking at the garage where we bought our car and they were very helpful.

If buying a car privately is a residency still required?

Yes, and once you are listed as resident in Greece presumably the Greek authorities could tell the UK ones that you no longer live there so it could affect eligibility for NHS etc.
