Must have gone to the wrong part of Lefkas, we loved it. Mind you Paleo and Corfu town still have a hold on me, I have no doubt we'll return soon. But its Thassos this year. We long to return to Symi and Kalymnos.

I loved Lefkas, both times I've been there. Nydri is one of my favourite places although it had somewhat grown in the 6 years between my two visits! Megannissi is a favourite place, as is Porto Katsiki (although not by road! )
One day I would love to return to Ithaca. I only visited on a daytrip from Lefkas to Kefalonia and stopped off there for a while; it seemed so quiet and deserted back then in 1992!
However, as most of the people on this forum, we will be back in Corfu this summer. What is it about this island that keeps pulling us back?

Hi all, thanks for the replies, food for thought whether I act on them or find myself back in Corfu next year, God willing, we will see. There is definatly something magical about this jewel in the Ionian sea. It is like a drug intoxicating you,in the best possible way. Only 3 weeks 1 day now to get my fix l o l Annxx

We have been going to Corfu twice for a month in the Summer most years for the last ten years but in the winter we go to either Hong Kong, Singapore or Australia or all of them. I would obviously prefer there but I still love Roda in Corfu and always look forward to going.
With the downturn, for us it has been as inexpensive regarding flight to go to Asia and Australia than it has been to go to Corfu. It is a shame really.
Regards,
Pegasus.

I first come to Corfu camping at Dassia 30 years ago & loved it then, it was along time for me to arrive back but I did. Now I'm comming back for the 5th year in a row & to me Corfu is special. I've been to other Greek islands but to me none havent got he ambiance of Corfu so if its not broken dont try to fix it stick to what you like weshamers CORFU

Quote: Would like somewhere green and picturesque, laid back and not pretentious, quieter rather than full on. xx
Ann - you'll find both Paxos and Meganissi would fit the bill perfectly. Meganissi is quieter, largely due to the fact that there's less in the way of available accommodation.
Halki is even quieter, and if it's chillout you want it's the place to go. Not much greenery, but picturesque in its own way.

Try The Peloponnese say around Pylos, best I have experienced all over Greece. The garden of Greece, food great and much (at least was) cheaper than the islands. Not overpopulated with tourists, lovely and often almost deserted beaches, good roads to get about and some marvelous historical places to visit.

I love Rhodes its small but lovely, and you can take day trips to Turkey if I remember right. This year I have been to Egypt on a Nile cruse followed by a week in Luxor fell in love with it, I'm going back to Corfu in May for 12 days and then back to Egypt in Oct for 2 weeks again. I'm finding its getting so expensive to travel to Corfu now I have started to look at other countries out of the euro zone, its a pity as I love Corfu so much, but I have to watch my hard earned pennies

Thanks again for the replies, I must admit I have been tempted with mainland Greece. Has any one done the boats that cruise round the islands? Not the big cruise ships, but the small ones I think they take about 16 passengers, would be a good taster to see other islands. Dont fancy the cruise ships, Im not a dressy up person, and dont do formal dining thats why I love laid back Corfu Annxx
