We want to build a swimming pool, largely by ourselves so will not have the back-up of an engineer re getting permits etc.
We know we will have to follow EOT guidelines re depth etc. but can anyone tell me who has done it themselves who you first apply to, what is needed, how long the permits are valid for etc.
We are not on the seafront and intend to build one of the kind that is filled once a year and then recirculates

The maximum depth you can have without having a lifeguard on duty (which I believe is 1.70)
There are also rules re fencing off access, and a villa owner acquaintance was made to sign that she accepted responsibility for everyone using the pool (in case of accidents) even though her house is in Paxos and she lives in Corfu- and rents through a tour company

If you go to EOT behind the B doy tax office, you can ask there. Best to get it from the horses mouth so to speak! They can give you the requirments.
You could always look at a pre fab pool as they come out much cheaper as oppose to concrete ones that come out so expensive.
If you want any further info, PM me or email me at sarahker(at)otenet.gr

Hi mmmmm swimming pool, complicated, you need to double check that planning is not required, if it is then an engineer is required to submit statics and the application. An above ground surrounded by decking might be the answer.
I am meeting with Sarah next week as she is doing some paperwork for us, and is very good. Can have a word with her if you have more background for us to work with.
The most important thing with a pool is not its size or depth but the volume of water contained. More water means bigger pump on for longer (expensive) larger sand filter, and more chemicals (expensive)
Our pool is 1m shallow end, 1.5m deep end, 40 m sq. Which seemed a reasonable balance for us. If you check out French Glass fibre pools you will see that they all have funny shapes at the bottom to give a depth of water in the middle, but reduce the volume of water
Hope this helps, if you need me to have a look or talk further I am in Corfu next week. Sarah has my number

I think that the "u" is actually a "v" sound in Greek (veta) so it is the pronunciation is always with the "v" if that makes sense.
I like the idea of a pool too but having a fight with myself as we have a house 700 metres from the sea and it seems a tad indulgent and perhaps not very ecologically friendly!
