Well I've been ill in bed today - down with a cold! But, I've still managed to update the site using my laptop!
OK, take a look at your profile. ( Click your button!)
Look at the 'Select Avatar' part. Notice the 'Upload Avatar' link.
Try it and let me know how you get on. Basically, you can now upload from your pc, a picture of any size, and the system will resize it and save it on the server - updating your profile with the new picture! Your posts will then have the avatar attached to them.
Let me know if you have any problems or have problems following the instructions (I can easily re-word them)/

PS I will also adapt the same system so that you can easily include (add) a picture to any of your posts - even if the picture is on your PC. The system will upload it, resize - even lets you rotate and sharpen - so that it can be added to your post! Of course the Gallery is also going to receive a similar makeover!

I can add a 'rotate' if that will help! Don't forget that as the picture you upload is resized to a square, it is likely to be distorted!
Jedi, gifs are supported so try an animated one for me and let me know - the resize thingy may not like it though.
I was thinking I might make the Avatar size a little bigger!!
If it was 100x100 pixels, then it would be as wide as the three icons underneath (Corfu member, Online/offline). Any thoughts?

Haven't time now - just popped in from work for a cuppa and thought I'd have a look at the site - will have a go later. There's no reason why the gif's can't be built at 64 x 64 to save resizing.
The 100 x 100 would be far better particularly as users will now presumably start uploading more detailed pictures.

Cool I can upload a mugshot now. Its nice to know what peeps look like.
Just a note Nathan; have you added anywhere information as to the max file size can be uploaded? You dont want your server clogging up with images whose file sizes take up a lot of room? Also, this is important so users dont upload a file, only to discover its too big, so they have to optimise it and upload again. A suggestion would be to put this info on the page where users can upload from "browse"?

Elton, a valid point. Many of you will know that the gallery was restricted to only 40kb per picture. The new system i have programmed though automatically resizes the pictures - so this restriction has been lifted. The size of the avatars at 100x100 is only 3k - so the server will not be any slower.
Incidentally I have 6GB worth of diskspace on the server - it will take a long time to fill up! Monthly bandwidth though is only 100GB - and that I have to be careful with.

6GB? Yeah thats room enough. Is the cache cleaned out regularly enough Nathan? Its something that can be scheduled, just to keep the HDD/server tidy, through Windows. Is the HDD de-fragged fairly regularly? (Says I, who has not defragged for a couple of months)

Becky, do you have Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop on your PC?
If so then open up one of these programs with the image you want to upload. You need to save it as a "jpeg". TIF is really uncompressed (thus, highest quality or lossless) whereas a "jpeg" is a compressed image. If you dont have these programs, Microsoft paint will be able to save it as a jpeg also.

Nathan - re animated gifs.
The system takes the animation and will re-size but for some reason it does not replay. It simply displays the first frame of the sequence. Any ideas?
Also, the background (black) was set as transparent so should not be seen.

Vicki, it was working fine, so I do not know what the problem was. Anyway, copy the following and paste it into your avatar URL (via your profile page):
Vikki, press your profile button (top of this page.) Then Edit you profile and place the link to your avatar - as given above, into your avatar URL. Make sure you then press the Update Profile button.
Then all you posts should have your avatar attached to them!

are you just trying to shrink it so you dont look "wide" (although you look fine to me)
If the image your uploading is 100x100 pixels then adjust one of the measurements until you look "thinner". So you should keep the height @ 100, but the width to say, 75-80? Although I am not sure if the dimensions that Nathan has stipulated need to be adhered to. Just try what I suggested when the upload page gives you the option to resize and keep doing this till your happy. Again if you get stuck, yell

You can try resizing the one you wanted to post........even something basic like Miscrosoft Photo Editor will do it. Even just resize your pic a wee bit and try it again ? I did see the picture briefly by the way, so it must've "sort of" worked.

Try what Eltone was saying yesterday, your picture at present would be about 100 x 100 to fit the avatar, try altering the width of the photo down to 80ish or there abouts, and this may fix it.

I got it dyed Chris, fancied a change, but my roots are starting to show through now so I think I will go back to brunette in a few weeks time. I will be brunette again (with maybe a touch of golden highlights) in time for my holiday in Kalami in June. Brunette's definately do have more fun! lol

Hi again natalie...this is at a place called Tulum just down from were we wear staying at a place called akcumal beach resort,believe it or not it was cheaper to go to Mexico last year than Corfu the year befor,from ware we staying it was an hours drive from Cancun practically next door from playa del carman so you have the best of both worlds being so near all the other resorts...chris
