Its midday in Sidari and I am lying on a sunlounger around the pool at the Beach Star the sun is shining and its very hot. There is a lovely cool breeze and I can hear the waves lapping against the shore. BLISS.  I'm thinking I will just get up in a moment to fetch a drink but.......maybe later.

LOL

It would be about 1pm in Corfu now so if we were we there we would be either around the pool or at the beach sunbathing from around 9am.

Well it's 1.25pm here, I've just finished my lunchtime sandwich and I'm looking at grey skies and rain.

If we were in Corfu now, it would be the first day of our holiday and we'd probably have just got back from Town.  As always, we'd have probably tried to do too many things all at once - the Bank, the shops/market and our favorite taverna for a gyro pitta and a couple of bottles of ice-cold retsina.

Ron would be sitting in a chair by the front door - he'll be asleep soon but only the cat that's just wandered in will be able to hear him snore.  I'll be on the top floor of the house lying on the bed, I'm supposed to be having a siesta but I'll be sitting up so I can look at the view.  I'll drop my book on the floor in about 10 minutes - drinking at lunch-time always makes me sleepy.

Both of will have big grins on our faces because we're in our home

Well, it's 18.20 in Dubai, and I've just got back from the beach - only 26 'C today, so it was a little cooler than usual.

16.20 in Corfu, I would be dragging myself out of bed in lefkimi, or I may already be awake, unable to sleep, due to constant lack of AC everywhere on the island.

So, jump on my scooter and head to kavos.......wave at the police who are stopping tourists for not wearing helmets. (It's important to build up an understanding with the local police at the start of the season, that I won't be wearing my helmet because it spoils my hair.)

Once in kavos weave around bright red tourists who proudly display their 3rd degree burns of a tan, but already seem disapointed with the poor excuse of a beach, and are wandering the strip trying to find anything to relieve their bordom.

I head to a pool bar, run by a great geordie friend who feeds me free beer all day. Her greek hubby seems a little disapointed with the deal, 'stranger eats and drinks vast amounts for free' but fellow geordies stick together.

by 7pm, the day is wasted and so am I. I go to check my email, but the becks is getting to me so i decide to begin the ride home. the strip is getting busier and starting to light up with more glowing red brits....they seem hungry, and most head for mc donalds, not very traditional, but it avoids being kicked in the face by stavros during zorba's dance. (or pulling greek pottery out of your leg, in a display that is nothing short of setting off a nail bomb inside a taverna.)

I grab some walkers crisps and a coke from the supermarket, but refuse to pay the rip off tourist price, so with a bit of becks fuelled banter with Takis, I leave him a euro and run. Somehow i make it back to lefkimi, but don't remember most of the journey, the occasional 'honk' of  passing greek friends, keeps me awake, as they head into kavos to work....

Its 8pm, Armed with fhm, i fight with mosquitos. then rest.

9pm I try and get some reception on star tv, for the nightly 80's classic movie. The ratio of movie to adverts is staggering, therefore a 1hr 30movie starts at 9 and finishes at about 12.15. Now I have to shower, dress, and ride back to kavos within 15 mins to avoid being late for work....it's a great skill...and it's lucky I have sobered up slighly.

On the way I get stopped by the police and breatherlised, but the walkers have soaked up the booze and the reading is fine, they question me about my helmet but seem happy with my 'hair' exlpaination, I tell them I must dash because I'll be late for work, so they send me on my way and tell me to 'say hi to my boss, from his cousin georgos'

12.30 - 5am. I play songs and take advantage of an 'open' bar. I could not descibe how much is consumed nightly.

5 - 7am - After Work drinks watching the sun rise over the beach, with the option of taking up the daily challenge of dinking till breakfast at 9, or breaking the current record. (3pm)

Eventually, get back to Lefkimi (somehow) and dream of October. Gaz.

Tornando warnings here in Westlake Village!

Am up and dressed at 6am and looking out for the winds but other that non stop rain there is not a gust or even a whisper...

Oh but in the dark outside there are some branches moving a bit rapidly...

and the storm is moving a bit quick so maybe had better batten down the hatches....

5pm in Kassiopi, just off on a sunset cruise round to San Stephano and dinner at one of those excellent beach side restaurants......actually a bit early for the sunset so probably blowdrying my hair into a humidity defying style and squeezing into a little number for the evening.... amd still thinking I am there in the later 80's so that would make me..... a lot younger!!
