Can somebody please explain or confirm this. When entering info for booking flight, I change the amount of hold bags from 2 bags for 2 people (ie one each up to 20 kg per bag) to 1 bag for 2 people. The weight allowance then goes up to 32 kg for one bag (for 2 people). Does this mean I can buy ONE bigger suitcase for the two of us, and take 32 kg in it with no extra charge? I am sure that is what it is telling me, but I don't believe it!

Jane, we have the same situation as you! You are only allowed 20Kgs between the two of you, but you can purchase extra weight which is very expensive!! If you are not sure pay for another hold bag and get another 20Kgs. Don't forget they don't have a weight limit on hand luggage, just dimensions.

No I don't think it does, the standard is 20kg per person, looks like your looking at a lot higher cost to take your limit any higher. Easyjets hand luggage seems large, we went to Corfu with them in June we couldn't beleive the size of bags people were taking on board. I would go with 2 standard suitcases, then use your cabin allowance for any extras. You would be surprised what they take on there. My husband even questioned my handbag. They all had small suitcases. maybe this will help we always pay the standard 2 hold cases it does seem to work out cheaper.

I have noticed this as well and was a bit confused, if you change to 1 bag but 2 people travelling it automatically ups the weight to 32kg for the same cost! However I would still play safe and make sure its under 20 and then take as much hand luggage as you can as we were never even asked about our hand luggage at either Manchester or Corfu. As for the weight of your hand luggage we had a good laugh at some of the sights we saw on the plane including it taking 3 girls to lift one bag into the overhead luggage compartment!!!

Hello
The answer to your question is yes, you can take one suitcase for two people with a weight limit of 32kg. But please take into account that you will probably need to lift it into and out of your car boot. We always go with this option when flying with easyjet, but when we went in July I think that I may have over packed a little bit, as my fiance put his back out at Gatwick when he lifted it out of the boot (it weighed 27kg on the scales)! So please be careful!

The 32Kgs is the maximum you can take in one case for health and safety reasons, baggage handlers, but you will have to pay excess on anything over 20kgs.

Hi Elliemay
They don,t actually show any info about it, but when you select your flights and go on to the next page, you scroll down the page to hold baggage where you can then select the number of hold bags, and when you select one and update it, it then changes from 40kg for two cases to 32kg for one!

At 32kg the bag might actually be declined. There is a Maximum weight per bag that companies are prepared to handle
"Each passenger is permitted
* one standard piece of hand baggage to maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm, and
* Up to 8 pieces of checked-in hold baggage to a maximum combined weight of 20kg. A fee per kilo for excess weight is charged at the airport prior to departure..............
Each passenger is allowed a maximum combined hold baggage weight of 50kg including any sports equipment, subject to available space. The maximum weight for any single piece of baggage is 32kg. Freight or cargo items cannot be accepted as passenger baggage.
Infants who share your seat do not have a baggage allowance."
Given all of that there is nothing to stop baggage handlers to refuse such a heavy item on health and safety grounds and you end up in your =destination with no bags

Hi C4owner
As I said before they don't really tell you on the baggage allowance page, but when you select your flight you can change the number of hold bags from two to one which updates the kgs from 40 to 32.

It seems to me that you can have one case in hold luggage for two people up to 32kg, which is the Health and Safety limit designated by the airlines. However, as it is more than the normal 20kg per person, you will then pay excess charges for the extra 12kg. They're not going to give you an extra 12kg for nothing.

I'm afraid I don't agree... they do have to give the extra for nothing as ordinarily 2 people are entitled to 40kg - so by reducing to one bag (with the max weight at 32kg).. they will be taking less than their full allowance.. it's not excess baggage!!
Let me explain what I personally did this year with easyjet: We are a party of 4 people, so we had a weight allowance of 80kg. To save money we decided to only take 3 hold bags... however we still had the same weight allowance of 80kg between us.
So we took 3 cases - all well over 20kg's...... as long as no single suitcase was over the limit of 32kg.... we spread our 80kg allowance over just 3 bags.
Obviously if there are only 2 of of you, you can't spread the 40kg, by just taking the one case - as rules say up to 32kg.
This saves 'space' in the hold... but weight limits are still the same.
One person is also able to pay extra & take for example 3 suitcases, as long as the total weight doesn't exceed 20kg (pointless unless you are transporting polystyrene.. but it's an example!)... you are paying for the extra space, not weight - if you go over the weight allowance, then they'll charge excess baggage.
So in my opinion 2 people will not be charged for a 32kg bag... just be careful it doesn't exceed the max 32kg.... but this is just my opinion based on our flight earlier this year, to be absolutely certain you should maybe contact easyjet.

I am glad I asked this question, as on reading the varied replies it is clear that the information on the Easyjet website is open to different interpretation. FetaOlive, thank you very much for your reply, it has confirmed what I thought. It may be that just as increasing the amount of bags does not increase the weight allowance, decreasing the amount of bags allows for an increase in weight. Yes, it does seem strange. I would telephone Easyjet to ask for the answer, but cannot find a number anywhere on their site.

Thanks orchard,
It really is difficult trying to check out details on the easyJet website.
Look forward to hearing what wishiwas gains from the phone call.

Does anyone EVER consider the baggage handler? All day long he is humping luggage around, on and off. As far as I am concerned I would not think of exceeding 20kg.

You can definitely take 32kgs in one bag between two people, I've done it and it also has a chart telling you this on the easyjet help section of their website.

Hi, I have some good news. I have spoken to Simon from Easyjet in the last 5 minutes. 2 people can take up to 32 kg in ONE hold bag with NO EXTRA CHARGE (apart from the initial charge for one bag). I also found another number which only charges 10p per minute, instead of the £1 per minute number which I think Nigel quoted.
Thank you to everyone who responded to my question. I appreciate the help.

Still not sure about this so had a little look on their site........... see below
Baggage policy. Each hold bag is charged at £16.00 per bag at the airport. Each passenger is entitled to carry 20 kg of hold baggage spread over a maximum of 8 hold bags. Extra weight may be purchased during the booking process, otherwise excess weight fees will be payable at the airport if the total weight exceeds 20 kg. If you need to take more bags than you have currently booked, please add the relevant charges to your booking. Purchasing additional bags does not increase your weight allowance.
Baggage allowance. Each paying passenger may take one standard piece of hand baggage, dimensions 55x40x20cm. The number of standard checked-in hold baggage stated for your booking must weigh no more than 20kg in total. The 20kg hold bag weight allowance (per passenger) does not increase with the addition of further hold bags. Extra weight may be purchased during the booking process. Additional charges payable at the airport will apply if you exceed the pre-paid weight limit.
Confused.com
Think we will go with 20kgs for our 1 bag as per above!

Hi all, just thought I would let you know that we are now back from Corfu, and yes, we took approx 25 kg in ONE suitcase between the two of us. We checked in and spoke to the young lady who confirmed that taking up to 32 kg in one suitcase between two people is definitely correct and allowed. This was also stated on our print out of our booking. Another little saving there then!

We are traveling Easyjet for first time shortly, booked us in for 2 bags in the hold but no way could either of us lift anything heavier LOL
Really enjoyed this thread though it sort of built up to a crescendo!!

I can assure you 100% that both Orchard & FetaOlive are correct. If you check in one piece of hold luggage between 2 people then you are allowed 32KG NOT 20KG and you do not pay extra!
We have done this on numerous occasions!
