Following my recent discussions with a couple of members of the admin team, I am prompted to ask the following:

If one of the team decides that a post should be deleted or amended, in any way, can they at least PM the poster to let them know in clear english why the action has been taken?

In the past couple of weeks, I have had 3 different posts deleted two by unknown administrators and the third by Nathan.  I have to say that, although I might not agree with his reasons for doing so, Nathan was the only one to explain to some extent why he took this action.  Sailor did try to rationalise the reasons for the first two but, as he wasn't the actual deleter, he was put in a difficult situation.  The real "culprit" has still not contacted me.

Prior to this I have had a couple of previous posts amended - again by unknown administrators who offered no explanation.

I do think that, unless the admin team wants to further encourage the accusations of unnecessary censorship, they should at least account for these actions.

What do others feel?

Stuart, thanks very much for your comments.

You have raised a vaild point, which we the admin team have been discussing in detail. In future if a post is going to be deleted by the admin team, then a PM will be sent by either Sailor or Robin Hood, explaining the reason for the deletion.

Please realise that it is very rare for a post to be deleted by the admin team.

Nathan

I moved some of your posts to the admin forum for consideration by the rest of the team as to whether or not we should approve them.  The decision was not to, not because we disagreed with your opinions, they just were deemed inappropriate in that place at that time and there was no suitable unlocked thread to post them into.  Ordinarily on such occassions an admin pm is then sent to the poster, in this case you, by the designated team member.  This unknown to me and others, did not happen for which I apologise.

The idea behind the system is that no one admin member gets called a "culprit" or worse for following the guidelines they have had laid down to them.  Had I not removed the posts then someone else would have done so equally anonymously.  The idea is to protect admin members from the sometimes unpleasant consequences which follow when posts are removed.

I am sorry the system failed in your case, and as Nathan said we have discussed the issue and amendments have been made.  I sincerely hope it doesn't happen again.  Especially as we do not enjoy removing posts particularly when we personally agree with the sentiments.

Julia

That's good news - of course, let's hope you won't feel the need to send me many of those "Your post has been rejected because............" PMs

Julia

Thanks for filling in the blanks.  As I said before I might not agree with the reasons why a post is deleted but I bow to your authority to do so when you consider it necessary.  My concern was that, without having a reason for why a post is not suitable, there is no way to tell whether you are making the same mistake again.  Oh, and the "culprit" reference was meant in a light-hearted way.

Epitelous, ola paei kala tora.  Na zhsete.

I'll take it that way then.
