Corfu
My whole family have been flying to Corfu for a great number of years. Our first visit about 29 year ago !!! Seems last yesterday as we can remember every visit clearly and the pleasures we have had meeting so many great Corfu residents and their welcoming friendliness every visit.
We first stayed in Gouvia .. Costas apartments when it was just a tiny little place, Kassiopi, Agios Gordios Hotel a number of times, Nissaki Beach Hotel many times and once in the Corfu Chandris.
We have traveled all over the island and will always remember having what I told people at home was an air conditioned car .. then showed them a photo of our Mini Moke which we drove up to attempt the top of Pantokrator away back then on a dust track !!

This coming Summer we are finding it impossible to get booked in at our usual time of 2 weeks from around 12th of June due to XL Air going out of business. We live in Northern Ireland and have no flights now until 22nd June which makes the hotel more expensive for us !!

Any ideas from you out there would be most welcome ???

Hi Fergus

Good luck with the accommodation hunt - there should be some bargains about during June that hopefully will compensate for the higher cost of travel, and I'm sure there will be forum members who will recommend some great places.

Have you considered staying on the North West of the island for a change? There are some good hotels in Paleo direction I believe...

I found myself nodding agreement whilst reading your comment about the Mini Moke going up the Pantekrator. The first time I went up we were in a rather elderly Subaru Justy - on the positive side it was actually a 4x4, but less usefully it had a whole 600cc of power. The dirt track, which was littered with rocks, eventually got so bad that we had to stop at the priest's house, a few metres from the top. There was a lot of cloud that day that we were above, and I have an amazing photo of a gap in them that revealed a cruise ship in the channel below, seemingly swathed in mist!

I'm sure you'll find a suitable accommodation. It's nice to know that Corfu has sufficient appeal to keep people coming back year after year.

Bill,

You seem to have missed one of the main points. There are no flights from Belfast to Corfu until 22nd June & this is into school holiday dates. The only option for Fergus for his required dates would be a 2 hop journey. I think that it could be an expensive option.

Hi Fergus

You could go to Corfu from Belfast via Bristol with Easyjet, I just had a quick look and you could go on 8th June returning 23rd, you would also have plenty of time to enjoy the delights of Bristol Airport.

I totted up the cost and it came out at £175 per person.

Hope this helps.

Jim

Morning Bill and Jum

So Bill you also liked adventure up the big mountain when we were a lot younger. It is too easy today and not the same fun. Back all those years ago I had to let the family out of the Mimi Moke as they were too frightened to attempt any further on those corners of chalk and sheets of metal laid on the path to try and stop it falling away. I had to turn in not much more than the length of the little motor inch by inch by inch.

My wife sat on a rock quite calmly watching her competent driver !!! Helen is scared to death o insects moths you name it. I was keeping a very straight face as right behind one of the largest lizards I have ever seen was sitting looking at her back !! Oh if I could have had a camera then !!
Did you experience the herd of goats with the huge Ram !!

Thanks Jim I have looked at EasyJet through Gatwick and yours is much better price wise via Bristol. Gatwick was about £475 return for both of us and the connecting flight times not good which undoubtedly would involve an over night stay. So thank you I will check that out too. Much appreciated. I used to fly via Bristol or Exeter many years ago on route to Channel Islands from Belfast.

The reason for Krouzeri / Nissaki Beach Hotel location is that we have become so friendly with the locals which means a lot to us .. Panos and his daughter Evi alongwith lovely young Vasia at his Taverna. It's like family as I'm sure you will have experienced yourselves.

Well bye for now and thank you again

Fergus.

I didn't think school hols in Britain started until mid July... then again I could be wrong! Either way I guess flights are going to be pricey.

As for the goats Fergus, I recall seeing them, though not too close-up. In Crete a few years later we did get surrounded by a large herd of very big goats that looked as though they could have butted for Greece - quite scary!

You could also try flying Belfast to Manchester, there are various companies, then Manchester to Corfu via Easy Jet.

Phew, thank heavens for that! I thought I was losing the plot, but didn't like to say

Next time you've over you'll have to call in for tea and crumpets, made using my special tuna tin rings

Sorry we have gone of topic, the Tuna tins we were talking about were the small cylindrical ones with a PROPER top and bottom. The type you can remove the top and bottom with a tin opener to leave a metal tube. This was to be used as a mould to make Crumpets on a hot griddle. I think that we should both be chastised but long live home made Crumpet but do not let the wife find out about it. lol      Everyone loves some HOT crumpet.

Hi Lymmbo

Yes funny you should mmention Manchester connection as one of my local friends told me to try that as a new Easyjet connection a few days ago.

I'll start checking these alternative routes right away as I have no intention of being left in 'LIMBO'!!

Many Thanks

Fergus.
