Hi

I believe the present state of affairs is that you do not have your passport stamped, but it might be a good idea to ask for this as proof of when you brought in the vehicle. As to flying out I never used to have any problem even in those days they did stamp your passport with vehicle details.

I can't see it as a problem now e.g. what if your car wrecked in an accident, impounded in garage, illness back home or a whole host of other things that require you to travel without it. I don't think they would ask 'where is your car'. It's only the police on Corfu when seeing your car might say 'how long has it been on Corfu i.e prove when you brought it in not when you take it out or it no longer becomes yours?

However if you have gone over the six month period that might be a different matter.

Ian

Hi again

Sorry forgot to mention important point.

If you do get passport stamped with car details do NOT forget to have it cancelled when car removed or BIG TROUBLE.

Interesting point.... I'm taking my car with me next year, so I'll make sure I make a note of that.

Cheers

If you are only going for six month it's no problem. Keep your ferry tickets as proof of when you enter and make sure your MOT lasts until you get home. Also, you will need to pay your road tax while you are away or your UK insurance will be invalid under the new rules introduced in April this year.Of course, this affects you if you remain in the UK as the same rules now apply.

I see many cars in Corfu with UK plates and tax disks that are 2 or 3 years out of date but now the new road tax computer is in place all insurance companies can see if you have paid and if not your insurance is invalid.

Try to avoid UK registered cars
