I looked at Natan's post and was both amazed and horrified to see how many people had read it and how many hadn't replied.  ... Confused.. then I realised you couldn't reply

I do hope this is not because someone is doing something to try and close this site down.  We have been using this site for nearly a year  I have found it to be the most useful and informative site on the internet and I thank everyone for all their help (forgive my gramma etc.. Hilary) and even if I haven't been on-line all the time I have now an amazing file of "usefull things for Corfu" File

We have spent a year, from conception "hey wouldn't this be a good idea to buy.....,   " to finally getting to stay in our new build in Afra -  Next week

- and all I can say is I hope that I will always be able to offer help and advice to you guys that sign up and hopefully gleen more advice from those of you that have made the the move - Keep at it!!

And many Thanks

Denise

Hi Denise,

Thank you for your kind words, people like you make all the hard work worth it,  I sincerely hope you enjoy your house, along with all the help you have received from this site.

I would just like to say that I agree with Denise.

It is a shame that some people feel that they have to abuse the site by making rude and disparraging remarks whilst, most of the time, hiding their true identity behind some witty(?) pen name.

I know that we are all entitled to our own opinions (I have expressed mine frequently on this site and even acted sometimes as an "agent provocateur" by saying things that I know will get a reaction), but that should not give anyone the right to say things that go beyond the realms of normal polite society, and certainly not to say things that could be illegal in their content.

Nathan has put up a wonderful site that provides many, many people with a lot of general information about Corfu, whilst also providing the means for those seeking specific information to make contact with those who, through their own experiences and professional knowledge, can provide the answer. It would be a great shame if a small handfull of spiteful people brought it all to an end.

Thank you Nathan, and all the moderators who do such a wonderful job, and all those who contribute their wisdom on a regular basis. It may not be worth much but you all have my support.

Geoff

(thats my real name -  I mean you wouldn't make up one like that would you!)

I don't think anyone has been extraodinarily rude Geoff. More like diversing from the main aim of the forum, which is all about holidays and advice??

Shame about the name though......

Kind regards.

I think people were just giving their honest opinions and helping others to not make the same mistakes, by telling it like it is. I do however think this is a great site and would hate to see anything happen to it. keep up the good work but let people have opinions that may not be so good sometimes.

Geoff - I agree with your post completely apart from the above statement. My true identity is Mike (bit like Geoff - not memorable) and, even though I have declared my identity, you, and everyone else, are none the wiser as to who I actually am. However, most regulars know of Jedi and will have formed their own opinions as to the quality, or otherwise, of my posts. These are only pen names and are not intended nor used to hide anyones true identity.

Although some would consider it a draconian measure, Nathan and the moderators have the power to banish persistent offenders from the site - irrespective of their pen name. They also have a reasonable idea of who they are via their email addresses and, if needs be, could trace them via their email service provider. An attempt at controlling the anonymity issue was dealt with recently by Nathan in no longer allowing unknown guests to post on the forum.

I know personally how worried Nathan is regarding the threats to him, his family and his business - I was in Corfu recently and spoke to him just after three heavies called and threatened him regarding adverse comments made on the forum.

Steve is also correct (In his post on the 'Important - Before you Post' thread)when he points out what a mammoth undertaking it would be for anyone to try and substantiate any claim, good or bad, made by others. We also have a recent classic example of getting it wrong in a newspaper article about Gouvia where the author invented an opinion to fit a pre-determined editorial attempting to decry that area of Corfu - she got it so wrong as to verge on the unbelievable and I'm surprised the local businesses and residents didn't try and take some remedial action against the publishers.  I'm afraid that if subscribers to the site cannot regulate their comments correctly within the criteria given, then Nathan and the moderators will unfortunately have to do it for them. They have my full support.

LOL........Mike.......(aka Jedi)

Hi cazan,

if only it were that simple. Jedi has highlighted the type of problem that arises from letting people express an honest opinion.

I think it is terrible that Nathan is being held responsible for other peoples views.  What happened to the saying "no publicity is bad publicity"?  Some of the comments I've read, although rather disparaging and very provocative, have been so funny I have laughed out loud, and were I visiting that area for the first time I think I would just have to pay a visit to the places menioned just out of curiosity.  And I'm sure I'm not the only one!  I really hope this doesn't affect the website or the Taverna, as both are top class and I don't think I could cope without my daily fix of Agni or the anticipation of my special holiday meal when I go to Corfu.

Jedi - Just to confirm that I have no problem with pen names per se - only that I am too stupid to think up a good one for myself.

It was the fact that some less scrupulous users of this site "Appear" to use them as a means of anonimity.

With regard to the powers of Nathan and moderators to preclude certain users and/or statements then, whilst I believe in free speech, I am in full agreement with those powers and fully support you guys for the difficult job you are doing. All that I wanted to emphasise is the fact that it is such a pity that we need moderators.

Or, as Master Yoda would say - moderators it is a pity we need!

Keep up the good work.

Geoff.
