i am writing about kalymnos this year will be our 11th year on the island we have stayed at different studios up and down the island from pothia to emporios .we used to go two weeks a year now we go for three weeks.if you can you are better going under your own steam its more fun and cheaper.you are better staying on kalymnos than telendos because of using boats across every day to do main shopping plus more beachs to explore.pothia is mad but very good for shopping and finding boat trips.the people are so friendly.even people from other countrys are so friendly.if i can help with more info i will gladly oblige

Hi Morgan
Is there a decent website that you would reccomend - been to Kalymnos but only stayed a few hours - would consider returning but need much more info on the island - but have to say - Kos was perhaps my least favourite greek island unfortunatley
Cheers

Simon and Morgan, Sofri (from Agni Travel) comes from Kalymnos. Sofri and I spent 10 days, last September, researching the Kalymnos guide (Kalymnos Web Guide).
We spent most evenings with his parents who have to be the most amazing family orientated people ever. It really was an experience. (Did I mention the food? No! I should have!)
Anyway, Kalymnos is simply amazing. I cannot wait to return.

great to see the site starting up will keep a close eye on it, is one of my favourite greek islands it has a pace all of its own. i found more to make me smile there than any other i have visited , from the airport, now finaly open to the crazy derelict hotel in kantouni, the tree in the middle of a main road, the man with a great dane driving his scooter! just love it. oh and a really cool bar on kantouni beach run by kostas and his lovely american wife. we have made it a must return place, although corfu achieved this first. have loads of great pics of kalymnos which i will happily share. we are trying lesvos this year so gradually working our way back!

hi simon , there is a municipal website too which has loads of good info most of the kalymnos sites are fairly basic tho. morgan is right tho some of the bestinfo is available on the rock climbing sites, whether you climb or not. main tourist areas are centered at emborio at the northern end of the island, quite isolated very quiet fairly upscale nice beach.
massouri, bit tatty but busiest of the resorts lots of bars and a club but compared to falaraki or kavos its a haven of peace.
myrties flows into massouri but is quieter , again plenty of tavernas and bars, decent beach and ferry to telendos. panormos is an area rather than a resort made up of kantouni, linaria, elies and platy yialos , they are greek greek greek, this is the place with the tree growing in the middle of the main road. loved it so much totally laid back, truly nice people good tavernas and a fantastic bar near the rock between kantouni and linaria beaches called the rock and blues run by kostas and his americain wife gwen the coolest dude with very cool music and suicidal shots at the bar. really nice people and a mine of information about the island. other places to go are the main town at pothia which is a maze of streets and alleys good tavernas and museums. would recommend a trip to vathi a fantastic setting also vlihadia has lovely setting and a nice beach oh and a marine museum which has lots of really interesting stuff about the old sponge diving days on the island. if they wanted to make a movie to show the humour, naivety, and charm of the islands this would be the place. promise you will fall in love with the island.
