Hi Roseanne,

Do you mean you intend to fly to Milan then drive to Corfu from there in a hire car?

Will they let it out of the country?

Julia

There is a regular train service from Milan to Venice but due to you arriving at that time you will need an overnight stay somewhere before catching the ferry the next day

Ah, ok.

Sorry but I don't have any answers really.  Are you a confident driver?  It gets a bit sticky on the motorway into Venice and it is easy to miss the turning.  Have you thought about taking the train?

That is the option I would prefer, lol!

Looks like the train takes about 3 and a half hours to Mestre.  You may have to pick up a bus from there.

The bus bit is easy as it stops right outside the station.  If you do go for this route, I would stay the night in Milan as by the time you clear the airport and bear in mind therer may be delays, you could be arriving in Mestre in the small hours of the morning.

For train times look at www.trenitalia.it I am not sure if they have it in English but it is quite easy to navigate in italian.

I found it in English too, thanks, Nigel, and it looks like you can go straight through to Venice.

Please book a night in Milan though!

I found a cheaper and easier way to get to Venice. I chose the date of 15th as the minoan leaves Venice on the 16th at 14.00 hours. In the winter it only goes to Corfu once or twice a week.

15 Jan Glasgow to East midlands with bmibaby 8.40 am   cost £2.99 plus £20 tax    (£22.99)    arriving at ema at 9.40am

15 Jan  East mids to Venice with Easyjet at 12.55 pm  cost £21.99 total price. arrive Venice marco polo at 16.10 pm.  Hotels can be found on the easyjet or minoan websites

Total cost of reaching Venice £44.98, cheaper than flight then car hire with petrol and you don't need to drive.

Overnight somewhere near Venice which you would have to do anyway with your flight and then the ferry next day at 14.00. Deck passenger is only 54 euro or reclining seat 75 euro.  Arrive in corfu next day at 11.30am

I wonder if its a stander or does it work the same as the euro tunnel where you need to book in advance ...

...but yes thats good I think....I am deffinatly going to stay in Venice...also need to get the times for the ferry's in case they don't run that often out of season

And as a special treat We will come up to east midlands airport and buy you a coffee while you wait to check in.

Don't forget to book the flights as soon as possible as prices will go up the closer you get.

Both still available. You need www.bmibaby.com for the first bit of the flight from Glasgow to Eastmidlands and then www.easyjet.com for the east midlands to Venice leg.

You could go on the 20th and catch the Anek ferry on the 21st. It would be possible to fly out on the 21st and possably get the 19.00 ferry from Venice the same day but any delays and you would miss the ferry.

You need to bear in mind that ferries are often cancelled because of bad weather in the winter months. We spent 30 hours stuck in the car park at Venice because the ferry was cancelled . We had checked it several times on the journey over and they told us it was running on time. If one is cancelled it may be days before the next one.

It was minus thirteen in the carpark, and all we had was a bottle of rum and a tin of mince pies. No facilities were open because the ferry was cancelled.

At least if flights are cancelled or late you are in a reasonably warm airport with facilities!

hi i saw that you dont land in milan but in bergamo.the best way is to take the train from bergamo station and go to brescia it will take about 40 minutes and there are trains every 30 minutes from brescia take the eurostar for venice not more than 2 hours .for hotels is better to check at www.venere.com for train  timetables www.treniitalia.it or www.ferroviedellostato.it

I think 2Tonsils was very unlucky on that trip because we use the ferries about four times a year (counting the return journey) mostly during the winter months and we have never had one cancelled yet.

It is very rare that they are cancelled and we have never experienced a rough crossing, the Adriatic tends to be a fairly calm water and its rare that they get storms seious enough to cancel the crossing and the boat is very big and stable so you dont feel anything - so dont worry you will most likely be fine on Saturday.

Venice does however suffer from fog in the wintertime and the boat can be delayed with that as if its very bad it cant get through the channel into the port - we did experience this one February.

Hi

I'm with Angela on this one.... but ther can be occasions when strong winds cause difficulties for the ferries (and other shipping) getting into and out of harbour due to the required slow speeds and a consequent lack of steerage.

Hi

Tipografio is right, you don't land in Milan but in Bergamo, so if you need to stay over don't look for hotels in Milan! If you are going with Ryanair have a look on their site to see if they have a coach that meets the flight and could take you into Brescia where you could stay overnight if need be. Have a great time whatever you do!

Just had a look at Ryanair but their coach does go into Milan and not into Brescia. You might find it easier to either stay in Brescia or Bergamo or go straight on to Mestre and stay there overnight. If you go into Milan you will be going further away from Mestre.
