Okay so I'm a Corfu Newbie. I travel out with friends on Friday 13th August. I can visit one beach (not really) and I want to go to 'the best'. Which one are you going to send me to? (You only have one answer - multiple choices not allowed and I know there are many wonderful beaches but I would like you to pick one and only one.)

Your criteria is as follows:-

Your beach selection must -

Be Sandy, have at least one Taverna, excellent swimming, a shaded area (trees etc) and be reachable by road. We also prefer it not to be crowded.

There you go you Corfu Regulars - hit me with your best shot.

ps - I'm staying in Nissaki but you can pick from the whole island

I was in Ag Gordios foe one day last month, and I am going there again for 5 days in 2 weeks. The sight of the beach from the road is stunning, and the beach itself is big, sandy and lovely. Be aware that in the central area of the beach (were blue-yellow umbrellas are located) there are some stoned that make getting out of the water difficult. Anyware else it's ok. The road is very good and there is a parking for a small charge right on the beach. Then lots of taverna and little shops, but the beach seems quite, and well looked after. I think there you'll find a place that you like.

Have a good holiday.

Hi Jedi,

Try Sidari's Canal D'Amour beach, it has lovely golden sand, great water, and nice little quiet coves, then you could go for a swim through the tunnel of love! ha ha ha

If you dont fancy that!, they have great watersports and the tavernas are 2 seconds away lol

Not sure what the place is called but there are trips in Kassiopi advertised as "sandy beach" and the boat takes about 15 minutes to get there...that one gets my vote!

Hi Jedi

What do you need sand for?  Planning to build a castle?

Buy some jellies and treat yourself to a day at Kalami.

Deedee

p.s. I love my rose avatar, thank you.

I think the sandy beach mentioned above (connected daily by boat from kassiopi) is Kalamaki. I saw it from the road, but I wasn't so impressed as the water is really too shallow I think.

Kalamaki is a beautiful stretch of sand which slopes very gently out to sea (and I do mean very gently!) you can wade out about 20 meters before getting out of your depth (depending on your height of course). So it is very child friendly, but hard work if you want to go snorkelling.

There is a very long jetty at which excursion boats arrive, there are frequently people fishing off the end of it.

There are a couple of tavernas, including quite a nice one positioned above the beach. There are also 1 or 2 beach bars which play music.

As we now prefer pebble beaches (no sand on your towels) I am not sure which beach would best meet your criteria.  Our favourite is to visit one of the tavernas in Agni bay, and then walk around to Yialiskari bach to sunbathe and swim (about 5 -10 minutes walk along the coast path.) This gives the best fo both worlds as you get the great food and atmosphere of Agni, and the beauty and peace of Yialiskari.

Kontokali Beach. But not the actual Kontokali Bay Hotel Beach. As you face out to sea, to your left short pathway to a smaller beach, sandy, and usually quite open, with not many people there. Normally used by the locals for the odd hour here and there.

It does not have a Taverna as such, but a small cabin owned by a lady from Nottingham (Lovely lady). They sell beers, soft drinks, ice creams, hot snacks, sandwiches, etc. The cheese pies are great. This area, and part of the beach is shaded under trees, with tables and seating provided.

A road from the main Kontokali road leads down to this beach, past the Bay Hotel, and you can park to the side of the road. Or you can park in the KBH and walk down the steps and along the beach.

We enjoyed quite a few times.

Best Wishes.
