I should think that it would probably depend on what kind of job you do and what time you're getting up.

If you are farming, and it's really early, I expect it'd just be coffee and and 'rusk'- the Greek equivilant to toast. It can be quite sweet when it's been made from a brioche type bread. (Then a snack mid-morning and the main meal at lunchtime)

An office/shop worker would probably have something similar to in the UK - if they've got up in time !  Although from what I've seen cereals are mostly eaten just by children.

As for all the people who've stayed up so late the previous evening keeping the vistors fed and watered - maybe Nathen can enlighten us

From what I understood from my grandmother (who is from Kalamata-Greece) the traditional greek breakfast is similar to the italian breakfast, with coffee, tea, or orange juice (but there is also "vissinada", a cherry juice) and then bread with jam and croissants, or biscuits. Mybe cereals also.

Hope I am right.

Hi Bailey,

i found this on a search for traditional greek breakfast:

====================================================

When you think of a Greek breakfast, think of the shepherd heading out with his flock, carrying some food in a sack. Breakfast in Greece was something to get you going, often eaten on the run or in between morning chores.

Typical items would include Greek coffee, hard boiled eggs, olives and feta cheese. Often a good thick bread would accompany this.

For those Greeks with a bit more money, rich pastries with cheese fillings would be the morning fare. Greece is famous for its breads and pastries, and combining this with fresh cheese is a sure way to get you through the morning.

=======================================================

sounds about right. lol

Whenever I have seen the Greeks in a caf'e in the mornings the breakfast seemed to consist of a coffee, glass of water and sometimes a ouzo.

What about Greek Yoghurt and honey that always seems to be on the breakfast menu in hotels.

There is no "recipy" for greek breakfast.

Some greeks have nothing at all fro breakfast, some of them just a coffe, but definately no olives and feta cheese!

Lunch and Dinner time are not equal to english or any other times.

Lunchtime is around 15:00 and dinner can be around 23:00 and midnight.

So, don't try to find greek breakfast anywhere.

Hi

What about Loukoumades? (Little doughnuts coated in honey and with cinnamon sprinkled on top?)

Last time I visited Crete they were on the breakfast table everyday in the hotel I stayed in.

I've never seen them anywhere else for breakfast though?

Had them in Crete also. The only place I actually saw them, and they were served with our coffee was in Corfu Town on a shopping day out. Very nice to. The place was down near the arches that take you out of the town onto the harbour front.

Best Wishes.
