I have just been told its so hot in Greece at the moment that the pavements are bubbling under foot, does anyone have any info, also they reckon that they are now expecting bad weather for  few weeks, i would be glad of any info on this too cos when i looked up the weater it still says hot and dry.

Where on earth did you hear about bad weather coming to Greece? All the local forecasts say that the heat will continue, with heatwaves (just for a change!) in between normal temperatures of around 38 degrees.

It is still very hot, but 38 feels a lot better than 43 in the shade. It has been a bit windy in some places in the evening, but still hot.The high winds increase the fire risk as well, and we are already on high risk factor here in Corfu.

As to pavements bubbling up-where on earth did they find an asphelt pavement (tarmac?). Most pavements here are stone or marble, not tarmac. The locals have been melting in the heat!

I, along with many others, would give a weeks wages just for a quick rainshower, so I could stand out in it and get cool and soaking wet!

I've just looked at the accuweather website and it's showing storms in about a week or so. I haven't actually found them to be that accurate and prefer to watch the Greek news programs. The weathermen here haven't said anything about bad weather, but I'll post any changes!! If you look at the weather forecasts in a few days you'll probably see something totally different because it's very difficult to accurately predict weather more than 3-4 days in advance. If the jet stream isn't going anywhere then we'll have more heatwaves because our weather systems are coming from Africa due to it's effects (or something like that!!)

Above all don't worry, rain comes and goes pretty quickly here and like 2tonsils says the island could do with a bit to reduce the risk of fire.

2Tonsils,

It's raining here again. I wish I could export it to you. We'd both be happy then!!

The general forecast from the locals is that the heatwave will die down next week and become cooler [ 30-34 C ] . We left Kerrasia on Weds this week at 6.00pm and the temp gauge in the car was reading 47C !!!!

I too want rain so I can stand out in it ..We have not seen a cloud since early May !!! Something has to give .

Regards....J&H

I know it must be a bit of an ordeal for you all in this heat, but please dont wish it away as my wife and i are coming over at the end of the month for a fortnight. Last year we spent a week in Gouvia and it rained for three days, still had a great time though. See you soon

2Tonsils,

Was just about to put sellotape around the package of rain when I remembered we are in the middle of another 24hr postal strike!

Can you wait till next week perhaps?
