I asked this question last year, about how to get to Paxos for the day, and (thanks for help) we had planned to get the hydrophoyle (how to spell that?} from the Port - however had such a great relaxing time that we didn't get round to it.  Holiday planned for Sept. and I'm again thinking about going.  Question this time is to ask if anyone's been for the day, is it really worth a day out of our precious 7 on NE coast, or is where we are as good as anywhere on Paxos.  Also pracitical question, can you park easily at port, or would we park in town and walk?

Not done the Paxos trip but, since you ask, the spelling is hydrofoil.

Thanks for that Phil (or should it be Fil) - guess I was trying to be clever with the ph, but it didn't look right did it?

Corfu's port is plenty of parking, I think you won't have problems in finding a place. If the regulations don't permit this (I have always been to the port to embark my car, but I think there shouldn't be any problems) you can leave the car just outside where there is space (also considering you'll go there in the morning). Paxos is a nice tiny island with crystal waters.

For the hydrofoil timetable you can contact Petrakis Lines / Ionian Cruises at this email adress: petrakis_lines@acn.gr

Have a good holiday!

Hi Sara

You are probably already aware of this and have decided you would rather go independently, but just in case.  The local travel agents/tourist offices offer day excursions to Paxos which include transport to the port and the crossing to Paxos.  This may afford less time on Paxos but removes the hassle of driving to Corfu town and parking up.  It's just another option.

Paxos is absolutely lovely and I would say is worth a visit.  Especially if you like boats.

Sara - speaking as a confirmed Paxos addict, I'd say it's definitely worth a day trip.  It will mean a very early start, as the hydrofoil leaves Corfu at 7am (Tuesday-Saturday), but this will get you into Gaios for 8am, giving you plenty of time to explore the island.  Avoid Wednesdays, since there's no return hydrofoil!

My suggested itinerary for the day would be as follows:-

Arrive Gaios 8am.  Have breakfast in the main square and a wander around the harbourfront area, then catch the 10 o'clock bus to Loggos.

In Loggos, either head for the nearest beach (Levrechio) or have a walk up to the old mill for fantastic views of Loggos harbour, then catch the 11.50 bus into Lakka.

Explore Lakka and have a leisurely lunch in one of the many harbourside tavernas or cafes before catching the 2.15 bus back to Gaios.  This will get you back to Gaios by about 2.45, giving you an hour or so to have a look around town before catching the return hydrofoil to Corfu at 4pm.

Be sure to check the bus timetable on arrival on Paxos.  The one I used is a couple of years old and although it seems to have stayed the same for the last 12 years, you never know!

Hope this helps.

Elaine

Hi Elaine,

Many thanks for the information on Paxos, this has given me pleasing news as we went to Paxos last year, but only had a couple of hours there as it was a joint trip with Parga. We all agreed that we would have liked to stay longer in Paxos, as indeed with Parga.

I have been informed that this year there are now two trips, one to Paxos and one to Parga, organised through ones rep, or the local tour offices.

Can you tell me how much the cost of the Hydrofoil is to Paxos please, or a rough estimate for planning purposes.

Thanks again.

There are smaller boats than the big Parga feryy types which will do a Paxos and Anti-paxos trip.

I recommend that as you get plenty of time in Gaios and get to go to Anti-Paxos whicg is incredibly pretty with the nicest swimming bay of the lot.
