Please can we try to focus on the reason there are all these restrictions on what you can or can't take in hand luggage! They officials aren't being awkward, it's for our safety. If we try to flout the rules or be stroppy, planes can be late taking off and severerly delayed. Let's face it, we all want to get to our lovely holiday destinations as quickly as possible, so please can we try to help Security!

I will not be taking any liquids or lippi or lip gloss etc etc on board. The maximum journey to Greece is probably 3-4 hours at most. I think I can wait that long without lippi. If I want water, I can buy it in Duty Free, which goes for toiletries too - there's always a Boots Chemist in there!

Let's try to help, Ele

Good call Ele, I only keep valuables and essentials with me, passport, tickets, money, camera, keys etc. Everything else in the suitcase.

You get through security quicker that way as well.

But for those who really cant do without a lippy for the duration of the flight, you can take it on board with you! (I need lip balm on the flight as my lips dry up on the plane, which leads to the dreaded cold sores yuk).

We just got back from Spain, and you can take a small poly re-sealable bag with you in your hand luggage (I used a sandwich bag) and in it you can carry lip balm, toothpaste (small tube) etc etc......as long as it's less than 100 ml in volume.

If you forget, the security staff are giving out the bags as you arrive at the queue for passport control. You show the see-through bag as you then go through passport control. If you dont declare any liquids etc in this way, they confiscate them from you as it goes through the scanner.

Hi All

I must have hit something by mistake as I didn't mean to post that!

What I was going to say was:

I just think it is far easier to put everything in my suitcase and only carry my valuables passport etc with me, but then I don't wear lippy so that doesn't affect me.

The first thing i do when I get Airside is buy a couple of bottles of water because I get so dehydrated, and then there is still room in my hand luggage for all those essential things I might need to buy!!!

Chris

Because having had a flight cancelled once, just as we were about to board, I never now travel without toothpaste, toothbrush and spare knickers.....with clean teeth and underwear, I can cope with any length of delay.....

I fly every week. Mostly from Manchester to either Belfast, Exeter, London City or on VLM to Antwerp. Manchester Security are 1st rate. I have no issue with being searched, none at all. Simply follow the rules and do what is expected and you wont have a problem.

Security is there to protect you and id rather see them doing their job properly
