Hi everyone ...i can't believe this Shocked

I have taken out travel insurance with Citybond suretravel for 3 years now. They have been great. The 1st year...the quote for 2 adults..2 children was £98.00 and that was with the extra premium for my sons epilepsy. The 2nd year it was £140.00 same amount of people and the same extra premium. The 3rd year...£345.00 but i didn't mind cos better to be safe than sorry.WELL i just phoned up for a quote for this year...just for 1 adult and 1 child...£708.00 Shocked !!! What is that all about. He double checked it and said it was right. Its diabolical if u ask me. Phoned another one and it was £1077.00!! So i phoned ace travel insurance...they quoted me £29.00 for both of us and that covered his Epilepsy .Something is not right here.

Anyone used a good insurance company that covers medical conditions for a reasonable price?

Hi Lana

We use INSUREANDGO

www.insureandgo.com

Tel 0870 429 9797

Very Reasonable

we Bought annual ins from them

My wife has  had three DVT's (Blood clots) in the past, and is

on medication (Warfarin), she also has other health issues, some insurance people either would not insure or rip us off.

a couple of months ago we went to Prague for a week

Full cover including loss of luggage etc cost £69.00

for the annual policy we bought in March it was about £90 each and covers us for every trip during the year the policy is valid

I will give you exact cost later, (wife out Cant find anything LOL !)

I know everyone is and Company's can only insure on individual circumstances but give them a try

this company was reccomended to us by a disabled friend of my wfes, who travels abroad regularly and also takes her electric scooter.

Give them a call/email ask for a Quote

hope you get fixed up ok

call you back later

Hi Frank..thankyou very much for your reply.I have just phoned insureandgo but unfortunately they said no too  .

I'm not having much luck.Looks like i'll have to cancel holiday.I can't afford all that just for insurance.I can understand it from the insurers side though but to double in price in a space of 10 months is a bit too much.

Thanks again Frank for trying to help.

Hi J&L

After having quotes of £708 through to £1077 it just makes me wary about how they can charge so little for my son's condition when the others have to charge the high prices.Plus the £29.00 was for both of us .

I am frightened that my son won't be fully covered

We've got travel insurance through All Clear Travel - http://www.allcleartravel.co.uk - one of us has asthma - a 10 day policy or two of us is costing £49.30 to include cancellation cover if we have to cancel before we go.

Brain picking time.... my wife may or may not be able to go on holiday as we fly in 19 days and she is currently in hospital. Her condition is  new one and was not declared when we took out our insurance in February. Do we now have to inform them?

Also she is epileptic and we use an annual family policy from Argos for under £100 per year.

to lana3735.  try endsleigh holiday insurance cover.

key exclusions. pre--existing medical conditions not controlled for a year. if controlled you are covered.

I would imagine that you have to declare it to them, for your own safety . It is a tricky one though, seen as how you already have the insurance policy.

Hope your wife is ok and well enough to go on holiday. Don't know the legal requirements of your situation but if it were me i would definitely inform them.

Good luck

Some years ago, we travelled to Corfu just a short while after my husband was deemed 'fit to fly'. On that occasion,we had our insurance through First Choice and the holiday had already been booked before he became ill. I rang them with details of his illness to check what cover was available and they charged an extra £17 for additonal cover, although I'm afraid to say that I don't think the person I spoke to really understood much about it!

Hi Don, I agree with Ang I would definitely inform the insurance company about your wife's condition, god forbid if something were to happen, and you haven't declared the condition, the Insurance Company are well within their rights to waive all liability for covering you, so give them a ring and see what they say - and hope you wife feels better soon xx

Cheers for advice everyone.

With Argos I declared wifes epilepsy and they okayedit. used them for a few years and annual renewal just declare no changes. Surely they should have informed us if pre-known medical conditions no longer covered.

Hi Don...i think its because my sons epilepsy is uncontrollable and he's been in hospital more than twice in the last year because of his epilepsy so he's put in the ''very high risk'' category .

Thanks for the info Kimbo

Hi Frank and Jeremy

Not sorted insurance yet..going to do some ringing round again tomorrow.I really hope i don't have to cancel Frank. cos my son is really looking forward to it.

It was the insurance off  the epilepsy site that quoted me the £29.00 Jeremy. But i'm really wary of how they can charge so little when the others have to charge ridiculous amounts.I'll give the Epilepsy site a ring tomorrow and see what they advise.Thx for help.

Thankyou very much nath...So glad to hear your seizures are almost controllable...epilepsy is an awful condition to have and my heart goes out to you hun.My son's Epilepsy is uncontrollable and as a result he's been in hospital between 8-10 times in the last 2 years.Thats why the premium is so high.Ace insurance (epilepsy website) will do it for £29.00 for the both of us..too good to be true..lol but i'm looking into it at the moment.

I hope you a have a lovely..well deserved holiday.I'll give the company you suggested a ring tomorrow.

Thanks

Hi Lana,

If your son has been hospitalised within the last 6 months, the premium will be much higher than if he hasn't.  The 29 pounds be right, I would bet that it doesn't cover your son's condition properly.  My mother has a lot of pre-existing conditions and I have used Free Spirit for her in the past.  They have been very good - our insurance was expensive, but it was for 3 months in the US and she was 79 at the time.  (We declared absolutely everything - high blood pressure, arthritis, joint problems, osteoporosis etc.)  What I did find out is that it is MUCH more expensive if you have been in hospital within six months of when the policy is taken out (not 6 month to date of travel).  I wish you luck, but if your son's condition can't be controlled, you are likely to have problems.

Hi Carol

Thanks for info.I have just done an online quote with free spirit and it came to just over £300.I have also emailed the insurance company that quoted £29.00 and have asked for it in writing that every aspect of my sons Epilepsy will be covered if i take out a policy. If they say that certain aspects are not covered then i will give free spirit a call.

Thanks again

Just spoke to Argos (AIG) Insurance regards my (epileptic) wife being taken ill last wednesday. What I wanted to know was the definition of a Pre-declared illness. When should it have been declared from? Problem is that after a week in hospital the surgeon said she was fit to go on holiday as long as she had plenty of critical illness cover. Squeaky bum time! What we didn't know is whether pre-declared was at time of insurance renewal or at time of diagnosis if later. Would hate invalid policy. The young man in the call centre did not know so asked his supervisor. The answer is at the time of taking out/renewing the cover. Not clear on policy but did state no extra premium required. Hope no claim needed to test accuracy of information. 2 weeks tomorrow to that land of Greek Mythos and legend.

When i have taken out policies Don...it has always stated that you must declare any changes in health conditions.. because if its a known condition before you fly and you haven't taken out the appropiate cover then you will not be covered.Do look into this further..i'm sure i'm right on this.If not i apologise and someone will put me in my place ..lol.Better to be safe than sorry.

ps.   hope your wife is feling much better x
