Hiya, you might be interested in my house. It is the first log cabin to be built on the island, there have been wooden structures for a while but ours is actually round logs.
The base was put down, and last Monday the logs had arrived on site. The cabin was first erected in the factory in Lithuania, and then each log is numbered and then disassembled and shipped over to Corfu. On Monday the builders started to erect the cabin, we had a rainy day on Tuesday so we lost a day, Wednesday saw the cabin to the ground floor balcony. We visited Thursday evening and they were up to first floor level, and by Saturday had arrived to roof level. I can' believe how quickly it has been built, all the logs are interlocking and held in place with steel rods in some areas and wooden pegs in others.
I am told the roof will be on by the end of this week with tiles and then things slow down a bit as the carpenters come in and make the window and doors and the wooden staircase and the upper flooring. It will be tiled on the ground floor.
The next stage will be the fireproofing varnish which is applied inside and out and that also prevents insect damage. The plumbing and electrics are then put in and thats more or less it, the longest stage will probably be getting the water and electricity supplied, but the actual build takes no time at all!!
There is a show house on the north of the island so anyone travelling to the nothern and northwest resorts will see it on the side of the road. They have an office there and you can talk to the people about whatever style and size you might be interested in.
If you would like to see the pictures of the showhouse construction just click on my photos, my house is over looking the sea so does have better views, but its a lovely way to have a house especially if it is being built in a rural setting.

Very interesting i have watch these log cabins being built on the discovery channel in America around the great lakes..Amazing to how they are built using a Chane saw to cut out the windows and door ways and the corking that has to into them to make them watertight a long and tedious job to do but well worth it in the end the room inside is enormous..Chris

The show house is in a place called Rekini, when you come over the pass from the south to the north of the island, the main road to Sidari and Acharavi etc. turns down by the quarry and winds down and a right turn is takeninstead of going straight on to Khorepiskopi, the road continues down the hill, and the house suddenly appears on your left hand side. It is even lit up at night as the house electricity is run on solar power completely, wish I could afford that too!!lol Anyway the coaches then turn left after the house and onto Sidari and Acharavi and Roda.
Our house is being built near Karusades overlooking the sea, so I can see Canal d'Amour one way and Albania the other. Its very exciting!!

Hi 6 days into the build and they have the roof half tiled and the gutters on! The carpenters have been in to measure for the doors and windows and staircase. The ceiling of the upper floor looks fantastic, at the moment you can see it from the ground floor. The floorboards for the upper floor will be on soon, and we have had a meeting to decide where the plug sockets etc will go, had to sketch my idea for a kitchen so we could decide where to put them.
We have had heavy rain this morning so I think we will lose a day but not to worry its just going so quickly, I wouldn't complain

congrats on the new unique crib on corfu! rosy its truely awesome would love to come by during the summer to check it out. i wonder what fire safety precautions are taken for wooden homes as such, are the logs treated after or prior with something? how about those pesky termites? lets hope there arent any that are agni board members! had left out a cardboard box last summer for 3 days and was completely consumed. anyway rosy good luck on the home and keep updating ur aviator with any changes made to the home its very interesting.

Hi Epsilon, yes the cabins are treated with a fireproof coating which is all certificated and also there is a varnish to deter any insects. It is aso earthquake resistant ,warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Very interesting thread............I passed the show house last October and it looked nice despite its setting. They sound lovely and it will be interesting to hear how you lay out the interior and settle in to daily living.

Nice one Rosy! Congrats on a swift and trouble free build - a rarity in these 'ere parts!
I often pass the showhome, and although not quite what one might normally describe as typically Greek, it's definitely eye catching and attactive.

I am so pleased to see that you have built a log cabin in corfu, as it is exactly what I was hoping to do, did you have any problems with regulations or anything or can you just buy a bit of land and assemble your home? I would be interested in costs if you could give me a link
Many Thanks
Carrie

I'm so glad that someone pulled up the subject of my cabin again, as you know, mine is the first on the island and as I said after the initial build, things did really slow down, with a few hiccups, which were nothing to do with the build by the way, anyway any problems have now been ironed out and the cabins have full approval to go ahead on the island and now on the mainland too!
So although mine is not complete, yet which was always going to be fine, as I stay in my son's house at the moment, its all go for this coming season.
The log homes can be custom built for you and the builder can work with you to get exactlly what want, if you have existing land, or want to find land, or if he has an existing build that is in progress he can help.
If you want any further details please, pm me, would be happy to help
