we are thinking of moving to corfu, but need to find out the cost of essential things, like medical care and dental care, we get national health at the moment, but do not know the set up in corfu.

What happens to our UK pensions, when we leave the Uk.

what happens to our national insurance cotributions.

E111 forms should be completed at your post office and stamped.there's  a webpage with all the information on how to complete it.

Pensions can be transfered to a  new Greek bank account ,for your national insurance contributions I can only guess here but I would image when you leave the UK some sort of refund is possible.

Spotlight ,tomorrow I will look into some of your question and post links for you to follow.by that time I'm sure someone will have given you all the advice you 'll need.

Hope I've help a bit

Roseanne

Hi spotlight

You should note that the level of (state) pension you receive will be frozen at the level it is at on the date of departure - you will not be eligible for any increases.

Contrary to what Roseanne says above, I'm not sure that there is any mechanism for an NI refund, safe perhaps for the current tax year.  Of course, if you are not of retirement age and you do not make any further contributions, this may restrict the level of sate pension you are entltled to when you do retire

Sorry I can'tbe more specific on this (I'm not an NI specialist) but I will ask one of my more knowledgeable collegues later today.

Martyn

You CAN get increases in state pension if you are moving to an EEA country or another country with a special agreement with the UK. The new Pension Credit stops however on a permanat move abroad. Leaflet GL29 from the Dept of Work and Pensions explains all effects on Social Security Benefits whilst abroad. This leaflet is obtainable in all Social Security offices. You can even get the cold weather payment!!!! Helps out with the air conditioning I suppose.

When you arrive in Greece don't forget that before you can get free health treatment you will need to visit the IKA offices and get your E111 form converted to a Greek 'health services book' .  This is explained in the E111 booklet which comes with the form.

Hi Spotlight.

I moved your post to the topic it referred to. It was on the Website News Forum under Newbies and Fanatics. I presume it was not meant to be there.

Best Wishes.

Sailor
