Hi John and Hilary

Being new to the site and finding my way round, I have just discovered that you are from Conwy - I am in Llandudno!!  Do we know each other?!

Although living in Llandudno for the last 14 years, I lived in Glan Conwy after I got married, having been brought up in Rhos on Sea - my mum and dad had the Ship.  I went to school in Eirias and to Llandrillo College after I left school.  After various admin jobs, I got a job working for Blue Sky Holidays (part of British Caledonian) and worked in Corfu and Glyfada in Athens (1979 until 1983).  I met my husband on one of my returns home during a winter and we had a son, Callum, now 18.  I returned to studies and completed a BA Honours Degree in Management and Business last year, with a 2:1 - not bad for an old girl like me!!

It's a small world!

Linda

Where are you staying on this visit Linda ?

You are going to have an awful lot to fit in during your stay . I know that you will probably try to see as many of the old haunts as possible , but that is not possible due to your extensive knowledge of places .

You will have to revisit to do all you need ...shame eh ?

Catch up soon........Regards..........John x

It's great to hear everyone's reminisences - I first went to Corfu (Dasia Beach Hotel) in 1971 with family on a 2 week package hol, and Corfu seemed a really exotic location! Lived up to all expectations and we toured the island on local buses and boat trips. Best trip was boat up NE east coast where I first visited Nissaki and Kassiopi, which was an idyllic quiet fishing port.

The following year my friend and I went on a hitch-hiking trip round Europe and travelled to Corfu on the night boat from Brindisi and stayed at the Kontokali Youth Hostel - had an amazing time there, met loads of people and rented mopeds. Travelled up to Sidari to see the Canal d.Amour, and there was nothing there but sand, flat fields and a few hippy-ish travellers! Paleo also was beautiful and most people went to visit the monastery.

Returned once more as student, then a long gap until we started family villa holidays in Nisskaki in the early 90's and love it more than ever!!

Hi Sarah ,

Linda has stood me up .lol.

I remember staying at the Elea Beach hotel in Dassia  and walking in the evening along the ' promenade ' towards Ipsos way.......must have walked a mile with no other buildings noticeable , we stopped at a bar and had cocktails made for us [ felt like royalty....we were only young ...lol ]

Hilary had a cocktail called ' Copa cabanna ' , can't remember what was in it , I asked the barman for one with Southern Comfort and Pineapple juice . On asking its' name he replied " Ipaneema " I was impressed , but had no clue as to what he was talking about  [ happy , worry free days ] .

You must have been adventurous to have got up the NE coast in those days , tourism was rife all over the island  , but I was under the impression that the NE coast was virtually undisturbed up until the last decade .

If you have any more detail , I would like to hear it .

Regards....John

Hi Carl & Moira ,

It is indeed a small world . I spent from age 14 up to 36 in Chester [ various locations ]  before we moved into N.Wales . What part of Chester do you hail from  ?

Hello All.  Have really enjoyed reading this topic, brought back many happy memories. I lived in Kontokali from 1982 - 1987 and have many happy memories of my time there. I lived with a Greek family who ran boat trips up along the North East coast. Our stop for lunch used to be at Taverna Agni before there was even a road down to it!  I would sit chatting to Eleni (who was then a teenager) in the taverna kitchen whilst our passengers ate lunch.  Happy days! I returned to Agni for dinner about 6 years ago and it was great to see Eleni and Nathan.  Kontokali back then was quite a vibrant village, The Cobra Disco was a real hot spot and the galaxy next door served lovely food. There were Georges and 'Real Georges' tavernas, Arches Bar, BJ's and of course Takis - I even remember Adonis Disco in Gouvia when it was a small shack above ground!! Going back made me feel really old!
