As an NTL customer, I have been unable to access any of the CTG's pages for the past week or so.  The browser simply progressed very slowly and timed out before displaying a "Website cannot be found..." type message.

Anyway, after phoning NTL's technical support today, I learned that for some reason or other NTL customers need to change their Internet settings to re-access these pages.  In the "Tools" menu under "Lan Settings" the "Proxy Server" settings need a specific address entering in.  This specific address needs to be obtained from NTL as it varies depending upon which area the subscriber lives.  I changed mine, and access was restored immediately.

Now obviously, if all or any NTL customers are affected, they will not be able to view this post.  I wondered if Nathan and the moderators have any ideas about how to let NTL users know of this problem.  Can known members belonging to NTL be recognised by their registered e-mail addresses and informed of how to get back access I wonder?  Just a thought.

As I stated in your other thread, Stephan, I use NTL dial-up and have not had any major problems recently!

I was also unable to access the site for days and didn't know how to sort the problem out until I keyed in from a different base and saw a post from another member (Dawn) explaining that NTL technicians had resolved the problem. I still use a yahoo e-mail address rather than my NTL one so couldn't be identified as an NTL user but well titled posts like yours must be helpful to 'spread the word'.

Now we have all had to spend even more time on site to catch up with the past week of CTG 'news'. Ti Krima!

Hiya Mapman

I had loads of trouble over the weekend with accessing the site, i could get into other site's no problem but anything with ''Agni'' in the address , it was not letting me in.

After a few days of .........rebooting,restoring it to an earlier time, deleting cookies etc etc........ i received an email from Nathan suggesting i contact NTL .This i did and i was given an IP.( means nothing to me ) I was then up and running , with no problems.

However, a couple of days later i had the same trouble again, so i was back on the phone to NTL. What i have now done is write the number that they gave me down, so that if i have any more problems ..............i dont need to bother them . I should be able to do it myself

Hope everyone gets it sorted..............

Dawn xx

Hi

Thanks for telling us that.  The best I can do at the moment is to pin this thread to the top of the website forum for a while.

Hi Flopsy Mopsy, it sounds like NTL may be performing maintenance in your area.  If you look on their help pages, there is a section "Check Service Status" where you can check if there are any planned or otherwise 'outages'.

If there's nothing in your area, then perhaps a call to NTL technical support will help. They are surprisingly helpful. (They only charge local rate phone calls, so its not a rip-off like some other tech upport centres)

Thanks mapman, will give it a go but been on ntl broad for years and they must be doing one load of updates in our area . we have 2 top boxes and the front room one all ways almost always wont give the programes that are advirtised says programme searching whilst the 2nd box in the back room no problems. It must be at least 4 to 5 times a week cant get onto the net, waste of money or what. Now thinking seriously of moving to sky and bt as our phone is ntl also.

Hi all,

I'M BACK!!!!!!!!

Also had the same fault. Had to get Scoobyz to log onto Agni to see what the problem was, he copied & pasted above messages then emailed me I then phoned ntl & 5 minutes later back at Agni.

My only gripe is that ntl would be aware of this/their fault ( other users phoning them) why should we have to phone them to get it resolved.

Regards

Laz

I had another issue with NTL recently, and they treated me quite contemptuously.  They wouldn't even give me an answer by e-mail, so I wrote to them.  It took three letters in a month or so before I received even an adequate reply.  It seems that customer care is not their top priority.

So, if anyone knows of someone on NTL who uses the Agni pages, perhaps they would be so kind as to contact them if possible, and urge them to contact NTL technical support so they can access these pages again.

Stephan

I have a friend who works for NTL but of course, like so many others there, he is on his redundancy notice. Maybe this is why there are so many unhelpfull staff, which will lose them even more customers and course cause even more redundancies.

Theyve even changed their 0800 number now for customer services... its now an 0845 number.

They seem to make more and more money but their services get worse.

As soon as I move I wont be taking NTL with me. Im absolutely fed up with the bad customer service operators and shoddy services.

Ive lost count of how many times Ive had to call them. Now I wont be calling at all coz its gonna cost even more money.

I long for a TV/Phone/Internet Provider who knows what they are doing and fix things when they promise to fix them.

Nathan has been making some changes to the site today (Sat 20th May 2006) that will hopefully cure the problem for all Ntl users.  See his post today: 'Important - Site Change' so hopefully everyone will be able to see their favourite site again!

I have NTL Broadband and its rare that i cannot access the CTG but there are occasions when it does happen, yesterday i spoke to a friend who works for NTL as an engineer and is well up on their system and pc`s in general..i mentioned to him the problems some people have been having, he told me that no matter what your Broadband speed is.. 1 meg or 100 meg, if the site server you are accesing is Slow then your connection and browsing will also be slow.

that may be the problem with the CTG server? but only Nathan would be able to put us right on that.

with regard to customer service, they have got Kerry`s bills wrong for the last 6 months!!!! i mean how hard can it be? this month they have not even sent one!!   the term left hand/ right hand comes to mind.

Dave.

Hi
Wee too, have NTL broadband and so far have not experienced any problems. However, we do use Mozilla Firefox, rather than Explorer.

I wonder if this makes a difference.

We are on ntl and as well as having difficulty recently getting onto ctg site (which chris seeangler helped us to sort out ) we usually have difficulty accessing the network for 30 mins before the children go to school and for about 1 hour after they have left school. I complained to ntl saying that we pay for 24 hour acess and they are not providing it according to our contract. when I then told them that they were taking our direct debit fraudulently they immediately offered to reduce our monthly subscription to £9.99.If you dont complain you dont get!!! Hi Dave

An amusing clipit for you then with the left and right. Some time ago/wont go into too many details but we were doing some building work.Needed NTL disconnecting then reconnecting.Too much hassle for them it was going to cost 200.00 We said fine disconnect for good, great we will go elsewhere.salesman said ok

Then another salesman rang us and said please dont leave ,we will credit you and when the work is done it wont have cost you anything.Problem for them was they didn't bill us for the work...lovely... no phone bills to pay for 3 months
