We had a letter from cosmos today telling us that our flight on 8th May has been changed! not cancelled because they would have had to pay out money.... it has been moved from 0600 which suited us fine due to missing the rush hour traffic on the motorway and it being monday morning.

The new flight time of 1100am while being as it is.. still a day flight, means that we may have to leave at least 2 hours before we are due to arrive at the airport of 9am because of the traffic and motorway roadworks...instead of the 35 minutes it would have taken!

Having asked cosmos the reason for the change they said it was down to Monarch....sounds like they couldnt fill the plane! while accepting that its not viable to fly all that way with a half full aircraft it seems that the fact that we had arrangements made which will affect a number of people both here and in Corfu counts for nothing.

Think it could be down to the fact that the Monarch air slots were not fixed.  Nancy from corfu escape told me this earlier but she had just put one time and did not chnage it constantly just warned people that it may go to 11 am.  Looks like she was right.

Thomson did it to us last year - holiday was booked with a departure time around 7am, then changed to 3.30pm - but we discovered there had never been an early morning flight in the first place! when booking we stressed we wanted a morning flight and had booked partly on the strength of them telling us the timing. Seems they can just make it up as they go along.

The XL flight leaves at 10 50 monday morning to corfu from manchester  we always use this flight and it has not changed for a few years... this year we had to book a thomas cook flight 23 45 on a monday night  still it was very cheap £24 . 99 plus fuel supplement as we booked it as the the first day on the internet  showed up .

I seem to remember them trying to save on coaches and maybe the 2 flights will be doing just that ..

cheers as always

Our flight when originally booked in ?January this year was for 6.30 a.m. from Manchester.....OK we thought its a bit of an early start, but at least we have the whole afternoon there in Corfu...but a couple of weeks ago,,a letter to say, now changed to 13.30 pm....so thats a seven hour loss of time on Corfu as I see it....oh and by the way, you guessed....we fly home at exactly the same time as originally planned...early from Corfu....arriving in manchester (replace with an 'at') 16.30pm....but as you say....what choice do we have???ours is Portland BTW)

so that looks like going from 3 flights ie 0600, 1100, 1400 to just one flight at 1100am !

so looks like all those booked with corfu escape will be on the same plane as us....

I'm also booked on Thomson flight that's changed from 6.30am to 1.30pm from Manchester.  I actually don't mind the change as I don't like early mornings but if I were just going for a week or two, I would be less happy.

We are also on the 1st May from Gatwick which has been changed, but I must say that Nancy (at Corfu Escapes) was very upfront that the time was provisional and would not be confirmed until nearer the time.  When I phoned on Saturday they were very reassuring.

A far cry from XL last year who sold us a flight from E.Mids that turned out never to have existed, and then changed us to Stanstead and have never paid the compensation

Our flight from Manchester has changed as well from 6.30am to 1.30pm but the return flight has changed to accomodate this to 19.50pm departure from Corfu. This flight is with Portland.

Had notification from Manos that my holiday had been changed due to the contract with my accomodation being cancelled. I was offered an alternative in the same resort which they considered a FREE upgrade. It was not until I checked out Holiday Watchdog and other resorces did I agree to the change. Just to be sure I scanned the papers I was required to sign, sent back a scanned copy and kept the original safe. I hope that I do not need it in the future.

Lol, just found out my flight with XL on Mon 1st May (replace with an 'at') 22.30 has been changed to 15.45 thesame day but now with Monarch from same airport - Manchester.

And I remembered reading this thread and thinking that we had gotten away with it!

Nat,

The flight I asked about is the one that I mentioned earlier which has been changed by several hours.  I was interested if anyone here was on the same flight and if so, what options they had been given.  Sorry you thought this was too off topic.

We were booked with Olympic leaving Manchester Excel at 6.25am. We have now had a letter saying the flight has been rescheduled to 5.00am. It hasn't as there were both flights originally on the web site. I think it is the usual panic that both flights for the season wouldn't be filled so cancelled 1 for whole year, though how they know this in February is a mystery. We are going in July & staying in Paxos & need a day flight, or end up overnight in a place we don't want to be on Corfu. For some reason they put you in somewhere lively when you have chosen to go somewhere quiet for your holiday, but don't get me started on the time I spent 18 hours in Kavos after 2 peaceful weeks on Paxos.  (not that I don't like Corfu, just parts of it are not my taste) Talk about culture shock! Anyway the upshot of flights being cancelled is now places have rooms available, but you can't get a flight with the tour company. We could book direct & get flights but would have to be last minute as accommodation is Olympic exclusive, & flights would be expensive. My Mum is having to go later in year than normal as rooms but no flights.

Ah well looks like an earlier start than I thought. Don't sleep much anyway when I know I have to get up early, sit up every hour to look at the clock, even with 2 alarms set! I know I will sleep for hours during my 2 weeks of total relaxation.

The cancelations fiasco appears to be far worse this year for some reason! maybe the tour ops thought no one would want to go to the likes of Corfu this year......

We have had the same letter as you re accomodation for our October trip....like you I  looked it up on the website and contacted friends in the resort to check on the alternative accomodation.

I have to admit it's not a huge problem for us as I can check it out on one of our earlier trips and if the builder does well with our renovations we can always camp on the floor of our house! It must be very unsettling for people who have spent hours pouring over a brochure making their decision though.

We booked our holiday in Nov. 2005 thinking that booking that early we could choose our flights.  We like night flights, not wasting a day travelling. Lo and behold they have changed ours (about 6 weeks ago now).  Same day but about 6.30 a.m.instead of midnight,  arriving the same as last year about 11.00 a.m., not very happy either as we were delayed landing at Corfu and dont want the same to happen this year as well as having about 3 hrs transfer too.  I will ask my daughter as she works for Monarch why this happens.

Hi all

I must be the only one thats had a flight change and is happy about it. lol

Our flight was due to leave Manchester on 19/6 at 8.15pm its now leaving at 15.45pm instead. So we will get to Corfu at 21.00 instead of after midnight.

The flight home was due to leave at around 4am but now its 22.00.

I hope nothing changes again, suits us fine. But no doubt it will.

Thanks Talie I am sure it was you who gave me some advise when I asked about hiring a room for the night(4am flight. Heading one night only.)Will still bear it in mind just in case.

Jo

It gets better. We had a call to pick up our tickets today. Upon arriving at Going Places I remembered what I had read on here - check your tickets properly - checked them and guess what - the time for take off had changed yet again. So from our initial booking in Jan 06 we were flying at 22.30pm with XL from Manchester, we received a letter Last Saturday saying our flight had changed to 15.45pm from Manchester with Monarch and that brings us to 2 hours ago and the flight has been changed again to 11.00am flying with Monarch from Manchester -  WHAT IS GOING ON? ARE THE FLIGHTS LIKELY TO CHANGE BETWEEN NOW AND 1ST OF MAY - GETTING PEE'D OFF NOW!

All the Holiday companies buy, get allocated so many seats on various airlines/aircraft. If the companies cannot fill them, then passengers are moved from one allocated aircraft to another, result, a change in times. Something a long those lines anyway.

My daughter who works for Monarch says they can change it anytime. all depends on the slots they have and what planes they have scheduled, if they sell enough seats for one plane if not they can reschedule another.  Can even change up to a couple of hours before.  All about buying and selling seats and scheduling the planes,  bit of manoevering of this and that!  I dont really understand it!  I thought once you got your flight then it goes at that time. But its all a bit precarious, nothing set in stone..  still most holidays are unpredictable, never know what is going to happen do we?

Hi,

We are going out on the 8th May at 11am with I presume, Monarch.  We have not had any of our times changed because we only booked it three weeks ago.  We booked with Nancy at Corfu Escape.

Hi,

This is Bob husband of Pegasus, someone was asking about landing at Corfu airport and I remembered that photo so changed the normal avatar Pegasus uses.

Did you click on the picture to get a better view if not it is worth doing.  Is it real yes, is it Corfu Town I don't think 747's land there so no it is not Corfu.

The picture was taken by Ludovic Aubert, Imapress/Globe Photo.
It was published in Life magazine. The location where the picture was taken is Simpson Bay, St. Martin a Dutch and French island.  The island is so tiny that its Juliana International Airport abuts one of the famed Caribbean beaches."

If anyone wants the link to see this pictures and many more like it, then if it is ok with the Mod to post the link here I will post it.

Bob.

Hi Pegasus,

If you want to post the link, please do. I would be interested to see more photos like that. At first I did not believe it, shadows and all that, there are none.

It would be interesting to see more.

Yes Trace, but I'm not a morning person, check in will be 5.30 -6.30am, so getting to Gatwick for that time will be problematic. Olympic may not consider this a 'Major change'  -  but I do! (Monarch airlines).   Still, as you say, means I will get there earlier, plenty of time for a drink AND to unpack!

Received a letter this morning advising that our flight time has been changed from 22.55 to 13.25, return flight brought forward from early hours of morning to early evening.  So we won't get to see Kalami at 6am afterall.  We won't be up all night at each end of our holiday either though.

got our tickets this morning and glad to say that the flight times with Monarch have not changed since the original one ie from 6-30 which we preferrred to 11am which causes us problems.

5 pages so far mostly with time changes! makes you wonder because it seems all the changes are from the uk side??? i would bet that the excuse of the flight operators would be similar if everyone who has posted a change were to ask.

Dave.

Many slots given to airlines are only provisional until confirmed......I believe that's why you regulary get so many changes when a new season starts.
