Just have to tell you about a little gem of a shop I have found in Leeds Market. Its only been open a few weeks and is on the top row of the market and is owned by a bloke called Costa!
This shops sells all of your Greek favourites, last week we sampled his Baklava (to die for) chilli tomato olives and this week we have come away bearing Saganaki Cheese (Mmmmmmm) Costas Greek Salad, the most delicious tzakiki ever and YES HE DOES CHEESE PIES! 3 for £1!
He is the most lovely fellow, very friendly and his lovely counters are spread out with little nibbles to try, his mini gherkins are lovely!
Its about time we had a lovely shop like this in Leeds instead of all the fast food/Greggs/etc!
If you live in Leeds, please pop along and see him, your eyes will bulge when you see the delights he sells!

Thanks for that tip! A friend has just started working in Leeds. Until he's found somewhere to live he's still travelling home at weekends so I shall have a little word with him!

I can get a pack of frozen cheese pies here-20 for about £5, but unfortunately the deli owner has shut up shop for a month so that he can go home and visit his relatives. Ooh I do miss them-the cheese pies, I mean, not his relatives!

How strange,
All our local markets have had these little Greek stalls for ages, I just assumed that they were franchised all over.
There is one at the Kingston on Thames Monday market
Also at Kempton racecourse market on Thursdays, (Not race days)
We also had one at both Wednesday and Sunday Brooklands markets, but they have now been closed down, the markets that is, the site is being redeveloped.
Bob.

Its not a franchise, its actually owned by a Greek man, not like the others I have seen who flog a few olives and pickled garlics. Costa is lovely and you can see him on photos with the olive press, I could have listened to his lovely Greek accent all day!
Just to let you know the Costas Greek Salad is to die for and if you go try the chilli olives, they have a bit of a kick!

That's it, Purrypuss - rub it in!!
Somehow, Sainsbury's "Fresh Houmus" (the nearest we get down here to the real thing) doesn't seem to have the same ring to it as "Costa's Greek Salad", does it?

Hi Stuart,
As a matter of interest, and as you mentioned Sainsbury's. They do a range of Greek products from TAGE "Total Greek Yoghurt Range", with other items such Tzatziki, Houmous, Taramaslata, Greek yoghurt with honey. Excellent tastes, authentic. We always use them.
You can find more information on their website, at,
Thanks for the website link Chris - it has a lot of good stuff on it. I have even subscribed to their newsletter.
We can get some of the Fage range in our Sainsbury shop but, unfortunately, it looks like tzatziki is a bit too exotic for the delicate souls in Bexhill. They aren't stocking it in Tesco here either!

Costa is becoming a bit of a celebrity in Leeds, he was in the Yorkshire Evening Post this week. Popped into see him yesterday, came away with cheese pies, baklava, houmous, tzakiki, little pistachio buns, cheesecake, olives and saganaki cheese!
Saganaki cheese is delicious, I am addicted!

Sorry to say but I've had some of the cheese pies from the guy on the market and they were terrible, I even threw the rest away.
The ones I make are far better.

Hi Purrypus, found Kosta wow!!! fantastic he makes his own olive oil from his place on Crete and you can buy refills. Also try his halloumi cheese with mint to die for
Great melted on flatbreads with fresh tomatos.
Not tried cheese pies not a great lover of them anyway.
Thanks Purrypuss probably wouldn't have known otherwise.
