Hi all looking for info again

We are planning on hiring a car and heading up to Kassiopi from Messonghi, stopping for lunch along the way! 1st question does anyone know how long it takes?

On the way back to Messonghi we want to head down the west side of the island via Paleokastritas. 2nd question.. once you get to Agios Gordias can you go across country to Messonghi or do you have to continue down the coast rd to Kavos and then up to Messonghi?

Cheers peeps Mallie

Hi Mallie ,

How long it takes depends on how long you stop for lunch !!

Seriously , Messongi to Kassiopi will take around 1 hour .

From Ag . Gordis head out of the resort on the mountain road [ turn right instead of left for Corfu town ] .......head through the mountains to Ag . Matheos . From there you will drop down to the main N-S trunk road and be only 2-3 km's from Messongi .

The trip through the mountain villages is spectacular and not to be missed for the scenery and way of life that the locals live . [ budget an hour for that part of the trip ]

Regards..........J&H

Kassiopi to Messonghi by car will take a lot more than an hour given that it is 50 mins on a very good run into town plus at least another 40 mins on a good run down to Messonghi!

Regards.

Hi Peter ,

Beg to differ mate , I have driven all over the island and know most routes .

We regularly drive from Gouvia to Kassiopi and late season will only take 30 mins . The road from town down to Messongi is better and should take the same . But , allow 10 mins on top for any slow movers !!

Regards.....J&H

The "regular" bit makes a difference. If someone is new, to the island or to driving on the island, it will take longer the first few times IMHO.

Your directions sound good ,John & Hilary, I'd say lunch could take a while,we won't be in any rush anyway..... when in Greece....

Cheers Mallie

dont worry about how long it takes, just think of a time, treble it,allow for lunch and getting lost, and enjoy it!stop every time it takes your fancy, eat in one of the villages, and if you take a wrong turn, who cares, you're on holiday.some of the most interesting drives we've been on have included "lost time"and some of the lovelier views have been during lost time,so enjoy a day out, cheers bobbo

Sorry J&H shows my age in computing terms, pre-world wide web. I was watching LOL being used and let one slip out.

(For any Geeks out there I'm also trying to work out how to link my mobile phone client to Google Talk rather than MSN Messenger and ICQ and have been using a few abbreviations).

As with aircraft flying, you are NEVER lost just 'temporarily unsure of position'.

This can also occur after too many ouzos.

Hi Mallie

If you are intending visiting Paleokastritsa can I suggest a route for the best views of Paleo. You should approach it from the north west via Makrades.

From Kassiopi go north along the main road as far as  Roda and then turn south which will bring you onto the Sidari -Corfu road near Troumbeta. Go up to the top of Troumbeta hill and turn right onto a minor road (not bad) leading towards Makrades. In the village of Vistonas  it is first worth a short diversion to the right towards Prinillas and Pagi. In 1 km you get a superb birds-eye-view looking north. Turn the car round and continue to Makrades and then down the long mountain road with magnificent views over Paleokastritsa.
