No, it is the price that everyone seems to expect for a return flight in the winter, whether scheduled or charter.

Is there any truth in the Malta - Corfu rumour?

Can't see this happening either.....

so we are no further forward, rumour only? Airlines in my opinion only respond to money, they may well be considering Crete as the big property developers are now offering inspection trips, as are a couple of other islands, is that what is wanted for Corfu? anyone visited Spain, Cyprus or Portugal recently? Just a thought. Do not get me wrong I would love a direct flight to the u.k. even if it was once a week and do not understand why when the population of Brits on the island has grown this has not happened, but if the developers are the cost?

In Scotland at the start of every summer someone "happens" to see the Loch Ness Monster and local business picks up - not that is relevant in any way i am sure - just been in the sun too long today...

I think I sort of agree with iff - I would personally love there to be a direct, economical charter flight, but the resulting development in Corfu could be disastrous for those of us who love the island because it isn't like Spain, Crete or Cyprus.

So maybe we should just accept the present situation and leave things as they are!

Anyone who has seen Barbati recently, or even Kalami which is rapidly heading that way, will see what even small-scale overdevelopment and poor (non-existant) building control or quality control can do.

No, we don't want Corfu to become another Costa, but unfortunately where greed is involved, common sense doesn't often prevail.
