Will the exceptionally mild winter mean another summer of hell from mosquitoes and wasps?

In Corful I had the time and energy to use all the usual repellents but my problems were with the little English bugs last year.  I got bitten really badly nearly every week in the UK and ended up using after sun with insect repellent (a novel alternative to perfume!) right up to Christmas in a desperate attempt to fend them off! Might try wrist bands this year unless anyone has any other suggestions?

I didn't think that the mossies were that evil this summer...now sept 04 they were some evil mosquitos!

i did find a good repellant too, in the Phamracy on sidari main street, there is a little silver bottle for about 7 euros and when i remembered to put it on it worked like a treat.

The mention of wrist bands brings to mind our private guessing game last year, trying to guess which "All Inclusive Hotel" people we saw with wrist bands, came from by their wrist band colour, and what category of freebies the colour represented.

We had no idea that there were wrist bands to prevent mosquito stings.

Our guaranteed method of not being stung is simple. When leaving the house for the evening, we spray the grand-daughters all over, including their cloths and if relevant up their skirts, and just to prove equality our selves in the same manner, (not up my skirt, I wear shorts or trousers, Bob).

Should the unthinkable occur, and one of us is stung, Boots little elctronic zappers work a treat, but the girlies took some convinsing that they did'nt hurt, but once convinced and they were allowed to apply it themselves, no problems.

Follow the instuctions, and they really work.

At AgniTaverna, they use coffee grounds smouldering in a small coffee cup to windward to fend off wasps, another guaranteed method. I wonder what would happen when all the tavernas use this method, perhaps the wasps would in desperation ignore the coffee smoke for the sake of some food to take back to the nest?

Back to square one!

In answer to the original post. I suspect that there will undoubtably be an increased presence of early wasps and mosquitoes if there is'nt a seriouse frost before the spring arrives.

Bob.
