We are looking at visiting Meganissi (Vathi) next year. We were in Paxos this year and loved it - and Meganissi looks very similar. However, we do like a like having the use of a sunbed/umbrella on the beach - can anyone let me know if there is an organised beach in Meganissi, please? We will have transport. Many thanks. Helen

Vathi itself doesn't have a beach, but if you have transport you can easily drive round to Fanari beach where there are plenty of sunbeds & umbrellas. You could also try Spilia Bay (Spartochori) where there's a super taverna beside the beach. Check your options out here: http://www.greeka.com/ionian/meganisi/meganisi-beaches.htm

I think it depends on when you go. We went mid September and there were no sun beds anywhere, not even at Fanari.
This did not bother us as we hate sub beds but lots of people bought li-los and a cheap brolly and used those instead. Not that they are easy to buy on Meganissi, most took the short trip over on the ferry and bought them on Lefkas. That way you have the choice of any of the deserted beached round the island!!
You will love Meganissi if you love peace and quiet, it really is like stepping back 30 years in time. Far less commercialised than Paxos!! I would go further and say commercialisation has not even begun to touch the island in any meaningful way.

We found the same as we were there in early September 2008(stayed at Meganissi Hotel)
No sunbeds but we took cheap airbeds (Asda) which I guess you could buy in local shops in Vathi.
We had wonderful time there although our first week was incredibly hot 40 degrees some days. Temp dropped by 15 degrees the second week though and we had few day of rain.
Lovely Island beware about money however as dont think there are any ATM on island. Need to catch ferry to Lefkas where they have several.

You are right, no ATM's and we did not find any exchange facilities either!!! Wonderful bakers though LOL Oh and the bottle shop will deliver whether it is water or alcohol!!
Tavernas are great!! Good filter coffee too from the coffee shop round the far side of Vathi bay, they also sell wonderful cakes if you are tempted
Exploring is fun, we followed one sign to a bay and found ourselves at the tip!!

Thank you for all your answers...very helpful but we are now in two minds.
The beach situation seems fine but we are now wondering whether Vathi might be a little quiet for us because although we aren't into clubs or music bars, we did enjoy the 'buzz' of Paxos harbour in the evening.
We're looking at two weeks in the Epirus coastal area - and as it is August, Parga will be too busy, so we thought Sivota and then, if not Meganissi, maybe Vasillika village.

Susie - many thanks for your pm - couldn't find a way to reply to it! We have been to Naxos Town in the past and loved it. I am still considering Meganissi...and also looking at Symi now - it normally takes me months to come to a conclusion!!
