Thank you so much for all the great info. We too are off to Paxos again on the 12th May and really looking forward to it.

Hi,
Just back from Paxos, so can compare properly and IMHO Meganissi wins hands down. I don't deny that Paxos is a beautiful island, it is gorgeous, it just felt a lot less Greek than a lot of others. Virtually every Taverna had some sort of Italian influence, and it is very geared up to cater for the masses rather than thrive on just being Greek.

Thanks for your views. I suspect that the proximity of Paxos to Italy, not to mention the Venician influence,is ever likely to have an impact upon the island.

Well I would agree to a point, although there can't possibly anywhere on the planet with quite the atmosphere of Loggos on a summer night. That said I love the italian influence part of the charm.
My first real visit to megannisi will be in late August this year we are staying at the Sigouri Villa ( Ionian I.H ) overlooking Vathi - and I can't wait - will be able to come back with some comparisons of my own then - but I already expect it to be very much more typical Greek.
Intrestingly this thread seems to have turned into "Paxos -v- Meganissi" discussion - well they are both superb - yet its about Lefkada - So as our second week is over at Sivota Bay in the south of the island so -I will be able to comment on that as well

Sadly I have to agree that Paxos is starting to cater for the masses. It always has, understandably, been very influenced by Italy, and I have always enjoyed that. However now there seems to be a decided leaning towards catering for mass British tourism with, amongst other offerings, English Breakfasts, Lasagna and Chips and even Tortilla Wraps being offered on bar menus. I holiday in Greece for the Greek experience,as I am sure many others do and would hate to see Paxos change.

I dont think the change will be so severe as you say - but my main concern is that sites like this that promote Paxos - only help to drive is desirability - so it will sway away form its authentic roots - inevitable really - lets just enjoy it for what it is
Probably why I am presently engaged in a search for "paxos no 2" in the shape of megannisi...well we will see !

I really didn't mean to denegrate Paxos in any way, like I said it is very beautiful but maybe we missed the boat to get the full Greek feel of it a few years ago. On this note maybe I should keep quiet about Meganissi
It is a slim line between keeping the Greek feel and keeping the economy going which must be very difficult to do, how can you keep everyone happy???
Anyway I hope Floralie and Simon you enjoy Meganissi but keep it under your hat. We have Skopelos to try next then Paros..oh its a hard life

been there seen it done it got the video ,, really enjoyed the place but bit like Malta not a good beach if youre into that sort of thing, great harbour at Nidri and hire a boat and go see the islands of shore .. found the people a little bit more standoffish than Corfu, till they knew you but once they did vry friendly ..., worth a car/scooter/bike hire for a couple of days but no more bus services were good too .which makes a change

Well back from Paxos 2 weeks and have now booked 2 weeks in Meganissi in September....... The Island "reads old style greek" which is what we like. Plenty of walking and lazing on beach/by pool. Wonder if Mr Bleasdale has produced a map of the Island... Will have to do the comparison test to see if why 1 is correct Can't wait till September.
