Hi Blue Chairs -
Well having been to Lefkada 3 times - and contemplating a fourth - I can tell you waht I think - First off its quite large and has a main road that runs around the island like a big ring-road.
Its main capital town is - well hmmm - dare I say it ... uniteresting in my opinion - and the whole island lacks the atmospehere of say Corfu. but !
On the Plus side the South of the island is very beautiful - and there are many plus points for both the East and West coasts -
On the East the scenery is gentle and the coast road as you approach Nidri is attractive with nice shingle beaches - Nidri - the most popular resort is the gateway to the of shore islands of Maganisi ( lovely ) and the Onassis owned private island of Scorpios. - further South and everything gets better - and Sivota Bay is also Lovely in the South.
Vasilliki ( where we stayed twice) is OK - nice harbourfront with tables on the edge of the sea - and this is THE place for windsurfing ( hummm - which means its also quite windy ! )
There are fantastic sandy / shingle beaches on the West Coast ( our favourite ) but - it can be a bit hard to get to.
There is a nice resort - Agias Nikitas on the North West - with a good beach and lots of intimate tavernas - and the inland of the island is also lovely.
Its a very popular place - but somehow for me -- it misses the mark - having said that - I keep getting drawn back to the island - maybe because it makes a great 2 centre holiday withplaces like - Maganissi - Parga - Sivota.
I am sure it has its army of fans - but for me a week there is always about sharing it with a week somewhere else -
Hope this helps
Simon
