Hi All!

What a brilliant site!  A mine of info. and just what we needed. We are nearing completion on our house build and are busy planning and arranging our spring and summer trips to co-incide with furniture deliveries etc.etc. and are considering driving over via Venice late summertime, and plan to leave our car in Corfu. I understand that there is a tax implication and wonder if one of you kind people have already done this, and can give us an idea of the  cost involved.  By the way we used a local builder, and he has been a real find!  So easy to deal with and he has built just as we wanted, on time and on budget! If anyone is looking for a good-un please let me know.

We are intending to spend longer periods in Corfu over the next year or so, until making the 'move' in 2010. Roll on!

Anyway, good to be a part of 'Living the Dream'.......

Best Regards to you all....

Paul.

Hi Paul

Welcome, best wishes for your future lives on Corfu. You have found the best site by far to get answers and support visa vi Corfu stuff.

As to the 'car' situation, it is a topic that comes up again and again, it is more complicated than it seems, a truly Greek approach to the subject.

My advice, do not leave your car on Corfu for longer than 6 months (you can extend this by 3 months I believe at local police office), get the correct paperwork from Greek embassy in London when time comes and bring car in then.

However my advice might be out of date now on this extension although if you fall foul of any current regulations (or interpreted regulations to be more precise) then be prepared to lose your vehicle.

There is a thread in the 'Greek Life' forum titled 'Greek car plates, help needed' , I suggest you have a look through that.

I think what it boils down to is, you can have a car in Corfu for upto 6 months without any complications. If you want to permanently import it things get more complicated although they appear to be getting simpler and cheaper but not much, this still seems to be a very 'grey' area.

Jim
