I like to go to different places whenever I visit Greece... and have now been to quite a few islands (corfu is definitely calling me back)

This time I was looking at places on the mainland and wondered about Parga.

Has anyone been? Is anyone going this year?

Thanks.

Cat

Mainland Greece -  Pelion is fantastic -  also Sivota for a family holiday ! ( Near Parga - but better in my opinion !!! ) - Spetses is nice if you can get good accomodation there - not been for Yonks !!!

Parga is picture postcard beautiful as is Sivota but I would say Sivota is very very quiet and there really aren't a lot of shops etc.  I think your best bet would be Parga.

Corfu still has a lot to offer you I'm sure.  Have you been to Vidos Island, done a tour of the little villages.

In the winer I used to read books written by people who lived in Corfu and then I would drive round re-tracing their steps and taking in the atmosphere of the places that they had visited etc.  It was fantastic.

Acutally I was think of Parga as well.  Sorry to be dim - do you have to get a ferry or can you drive straight from the airport?

Parga and Sivota offer quite different holidays -

Marymouse - Parga is about an hours drive from Preveza - whilst Sivota takes a little longer.  Both very beatiful, and both quite suited to a family hoiday.   However if you are going at the height of the season Parga realy does get uncomfortably busy - its stunningly attractive - and has in Valtos a magnificent sandy beach.   Its also nice to walk around the castle and its wooded surroundings  - The village beach is nothing special - but there are a couple on nice small sandy bays at the far end of the town - you can also take the watertaxi - or drive - to the nearby Sarakiniko beach, which we prefer as there is more in the way of shade.   Parga is crammed full of bars and places to eat and some tacky souveneer shops -  having said that it all happens in a reletively small area - so its very easy to get from on side of the village to the other, but as said at its best outside of peak season.

Sivota, is much quieter - yet still has a handfull of nice boutiques - a very relaxed waterfront with really first class tavernas there - its also very noticably less expensive - Its a much more liad -back sort of place and doesn't get the swarms of crowds that Parga does which is why we prefer it

-  There are ample places to eat - and the nice bars ( in particular the bamboo place - everyones favourite ) are all very good - It has a small waterpark for the children - there are some very pretty bays peble and sandy beaches - and you have the advantage of being able to hire your own boat and explore the tiny islets which is great fun - which you cant do in Parga -  it really is great for a family holiday.

As for shopping in Sivota  - If its just day to day groceries - the local supermarkets will actually deliver your groceries / wine / ect for free - you can get just about anything in the village - but if you are looking at serious shopping and have a car - Igumenitsa is within easy reach ( also for a day trip to Corfu )

The coast road that runs between the two is and easy and pleasant drive of about half and hour at most.

Hope this helps

Simon

PS  Would reccomend Sunvil as the T/O for Sivota -

Jim40 - Yes I know Spetses is and Island but its almost attached to the mainland - you could swim it !!!!

Thanks for that comprehensive reply Simon - we were thinking of either June or September.  Got a bit confused about the airport/ferry etc, but understand now!  Thanks again.
