You may have been a member for almost 2years but you have made very few posts in that time, less than one a month in fact. We like to see a few posts from people before we allow PMs as in the past we have had people join and then PM many members with adverts so untill we see sensible posts PMs are not allowed.
However, I have checked and your PMs are allowed now.

Hi I am having the same problem I have received 3 pms but unable to contact the members which seems a little rude. I find myself looking for topics to add too just trying to get the ability to pm, very frustrating on both sides as I am only looking for advice for when I come out to start work on the house

Sorry, currently you are unable to access this forum - you need more stars.
Thats not nice to the member who was writing me,as i cant answer him.
Hi Moderators. Err I've had a PM and can't reply either.
Never, ever subscribed to a forum before that by default has PM swithced off for new members. Does everyone understand that when they PM me, a recent member, that they AIN'T gonna get a reply. I doubt it!

I am sorry you feel so aggrieved about this. To be honest most new members don't even recieve pms at first.
We have good reasons for this restriction. Many members join simply with the intention of spamming and some of the products they publicise are not really the kind of thing we want associated with this website.
Then occasionally we have people join in order to make unsolicited contact with female members. Or, sometimes we have to bar certain people from using the site but there is nothing we can do to prevent them re-joining under another name and harrassing others by pm.
Stopping new members from being able to use the pm system until we are satisfied that they are what they claim to be and that their interests in the site are legitimate is our way of protecting our other members.
I hope that explains things to your satisfaction. Perhaps the person who sent you the pm would be kind enough to send you his/her email and you could reply on that.

Very good points very well made Julia, especially when some people are being less than polite!

I obviously see your slant on this and as moderators you have to endure the flack and hassle caused by these types who abuse the system and in this case spoil it for the likes of us law-abiding citizens like Bruce and myself.
But because of that it's a sledgehammer which makes my use of the forum limited with no clear guidance when the PM facility is going to be eventually switched on for me.
What can I do to persuade you that I am a good guy in this respect? Otherwise these bad guys have now permanently left their mark in spoiling this website in this respect for all new users to come.

I therefore humbly request to be allowed to reply to/start sending PM's.
Thanks.
Turunc.
